The Malta Study Center, Hill Museum & Manuscript Library Digital preservation of the cultural hertiage of Malta and the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem.

The Malta Study Center maintains a digital collection of over 2.5 million manuscript images and a microfilm collection of more than 16,000 documents and dossiers of documents from Malta, covering the period of the 12th to the 20th century. The materials include the Archives of the Knights of Malta, the Cathedral Museum in Mdina, the Archives of the Inquisition, ecclesiastical records of the dioces

es of Malta and Gozo, and musical compositions. The Center now sponsors digitization projects to preserve the history of Malta and the Knights of Saint John. It acquires antiquarian and modern publications dealing with Malta's history, literature, and culture, in addition to materials pertaining to the Knights of Saint John and Mediterranean history.

Yesterday in Florence, Italy, we held the “The Order of Saint John and Family Archives: Mapping Hidden Networks of Memory” Conference bringing together archivists and scholars discussing the Order’s records in the Buonarroti, Corsini, Colonna, Aldobrandini, Barberini, and De Piro archives. The conference was at the Archivio di Stato di Firenze and organized by Dr Valeria Vanesio and Dr Daniel Gullo.

Iron gall ink corrosion and brittle pages due to heat and acidification remain a significant and urgent threat to the survival of the Archives of the Order of Malta at the National Library of Malta. Our digitization project is therefore essential, and will help digitally preserve the archive until future conservation can take place to preserve the volume.

Order of St. Iohn of Ierusalem from 1100 to 1859" was the first modern attempt to create a systematic list of the membership of the Langue of England, including the Sisters of Buckland. the work was created as part of the attempts restore of the Order of Saint John during the Catholic revival in England during the nineteenth century. The records The National Archives of Malta also include boxes of loose papers, most of which suffer from water and humidity damage. Our digitization project helps preserve these documents waiting for long-term conservation care.
