Stella Maris Chapel Project

Stella Maris Chapel Project When the chapel was renovated, I started to think about the chapel's past and it's meaning to me. I would love to hear your stories.

I wonder how many other people have had the same connection and history with the landmark that I have had? If you're willing to share, please send your stories to [email protected] or post them on the wall of the Stella Maris Chapel Project page. My name is Michelle Bot and I'm a Minnesota photographer. Over the years I have developed a strong connection with the Stella Maris Chapel. My

ultimate goal is to compile a variety of stories/memories about the chapel; then combine them with my images into a book. For more information about the project and the chapel, please visit my project website.

Spring is here! Would anyone care to post a photo hiking out to the chapel? I certainly need to find a day to get out there myself sometime soon! Here's a couple small photos I posted 8 years ago when the chapel renovation first happened.

Feel free to post any of your own photos of hiking out to the chapel! I need to get back out there myself. Until I can make the time, I need to live vicariously through others!

A heartbreaking and very touching story. The page reads,

To whomever may read this:

On April 11, 2003, a young man named Rick died in an act of love. As if in a long ago time, he requested the permission of his girlfriend Jessica's parents to take her on a moonlit picnic. His love for Jessica was greater than the lake before you and knew no bounds. He was going to surprise Jessica by bringing her to this spot and magically finding a blanket and picnic fare. The moonlit picnic, however, never happened. Rick was killed in a car accident on his way to set the scene. Jessica and her father came to this site that terrible evening to collect anything he may have prepared.

When you finish reading this I ask that you look out over the lake, say a prayer for those affected by this tragic event, and learn to love those around you with the same boundless love Rick had for Jessica. And should this, by some strange reason, be a moonlit night think of Jessica's father trying to figure out how to "make it all better."

I know I've let this page fall under neglect. I would still love to hear anyone's stories, memories of their own experiences of this beautiful and unique place!
