The mission of the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M University is to preserve and make available the records and artifacts of George H.W. We promote civic literacy and increased historical understanding of our national experience, and foster a community of public service and volunteerism. On October 25, 1989, President George H.W. Bush proclaimed October as Country Music Month, recognizing the genre’s important place in American culture and heritage.

As he stated, “Over the years, country music has given an eloquent expression to the American spirit.” Two years later, on October 2, 1991, President Bush celebrated that same spirit in a speech at the Country Music Awards, alongside country music legends and that year’s host, Reba McEntire. “It’s easy to see why America loves country music: country music loves America.”

Join us at the Bush Library and Museum on November 7th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as we team up with the Aggieland Modeling Club for a special model-making workshop dedicated to Veterans and their families.

The Scale 41 event will highlight model kits showcasing the life and legacy of George Bush, featuring builds such as his WWII TBM Avenger, military gear from Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and vehicles from the Presidential Transportation Fleet.

Attendees can bring ongoing projects or register for available kits. As a Make and Take workshop, every builder takes their finished model home!

Alongside the workshop, we will host a non-competitive exhibition of Bush 41-themed models.

In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, we are delighted to host Dr. Michael Auslin as he presents his latest book, “National Treasure: How the Declaration of Independence Made America.” This work chronicles the full journey of the Declaration of Independence—from its drafting by Thomas Jefferson to its home at the National Archives. It traces the remarkable evolution of a document that was once overlooked and mistreated, yet ultimately grew into a cherished national treasure that brings together generations across war and adversity through its timeless principles.

As we embrace October, we’re celebrating American Archives Month!

The George H.W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum is proud to be a part of the National Archives & Records Administration.

The National Archives (NARA) was established by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1934. NARA holds approximately 13.5 billion pages of textual records; 10 million maps, charts, and architectural and engineering drawings; 40 million still photographs, digital images, filmstrips, and graphics; 40 million aerial photographs; more than 448 million feet of motion picture film; 992,000 video and sound recordings; and 837 terabytes of electronic data in trust for the American people.

With locations across 17 states and the District of Columbia as well as 16 presidential libraries, the National Archives works with the mission to “...preserve, protect, and share the historical records of the United States to promote public inquiry and strengthen democratic participation.”

Today we celebrate the United States Navy!

On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress established what would become the United States Navy. President George H.W. Bush’s own story of service began in the U.S. Navy. At just 18 years old, he became one of the Navy’s youngest commissioned aviators during World War II, flying combat missions in the Pacific. His experiences as a naval aviator helped shape a lifetime dedicated to service, leadership, and country.

As we celebrate America's 250 years of independence and Texas A&M University's 150 years of excellence, it’s quite a fitting time to honor a giant of public service.

Though George H.W. Bush wasn’t an Aggie by degree, he lived as a shining example of the Texas A&M Core Values every day of his life.

His legacy of selfless service and principled leadership remains deeply woven into the heart of Aggieland.
