Scholarship dinner next week! If you haven't yet purchased tickets, please consider doing so at this time; this is our one annual fundraiser that helps to support the chapter and the scholarships (link will be re-shared in an additional post).

Additionally, our speaker is ROD BABERS! His bio is shared below. You don't want to miss this amazing opportunity to get to meet a UT star!

Rod Babers is a former NFL player who played collegiate football at The University of Texas. He is currently a sports analyst who provides analysis and insight as a Longhorn Football insider for On Texas Football. Rod Babers is a multimedia personality who has over 18 years of experience in sports entertainment. Prior to joining the OTF (On Texas Football) family, he entertained central Texans as a host/co host of multiple sportstalk radio shows in the Austin & San Antonio markets on AM1300 & 104.9 The Horn. Rod Babers was also an analyst for LHN (Longhorn Network) pre and post game broadcasts during the 2016 football season. He also served as sideline correspondent for the IMG radio network during Texas Football broadcasts from 2011-2013. Prior to his time as sideline analyst for Texas Football, from 2009-2012 Rod Babers was also a color analyst and sideline correspondent for high school football games (Westlake football; Austin American Statesman game of the week). Rod Babers was formerly a writer and podcaster with Horns247, most notably the Texas Football podcast "Longhorn Blitz" which was syndicated in several cities in Texas.

Before embarking on a career in sports broadcasting, Rod Babers was an NFL player who was originally drafted by the New York Giants in 2003. He would go on to play 5 total years in the NFL; spending most of his career with the Detroit Lions. During his NFL career Rod also played for the Tampa Bay Bucs, Chicago Bears and the Denver Broncos. After leaving the NFL, Rod headed north to play Canadian Football for the Hamilton TigerCats. Rod's stint with the TigerCats was brief and afterwards he would return to The University of Texas to acquire his bachelors degree in Education.

Rod was heavily recruited by several college football powerhouses at the time including Texas, Florida State, Colorado, Texas A&M along with Penn State & numerous others. Rod decided to stay close to home and attend The University of Texas @ Austin. His commitment helped UT garner the nations top recruiting class in 1999. As a freshman for the Longhorns Rod would start only two games. As a sophomore Rod would earn the starting cornerback spot alongside Quentin Jammer; together the physical combination of Quentin Jammer and Rod Babers would lead the Longhorns to the No.1 ranked pass defense in the nation. Rod would finish his UT career as a 3 year starter and a team captain (starting 38 consecutive games {40 total}) capturing Third Team All America honors with The Sporting News and Third Team All America Honors with the Associated Press; he was also awarded with First Team All Big 12 honors.

Rod Babers attended Mirabeau B. Lamar High School in Houston Texas. As a junior he excelled in football & his senior campaign earned him Sporting News All American honorable mention honors, USA Today All American honorable mention honors and 1st Team All State honors.

We are less than 30 days out from our annual scholarship dinner!

If you haven’t purchased your tickets to the dinner and for the Golden Ticket, NOW IS THE TIME! The dinner is being provided at the very low price of $35! This includes entry to the event, catered dinner, UT-themed desserts, exciting entertainment, and the camaraderie that only Texas Longhorns can share.

Further, our Golden Ticket this year offers you the chance to win an amazing trip to one of our fabulous locations (see below for details)! Importantly, know that if your name is drawn and you cannot travel, your ticket is transferrable! We will sell ONLY 100 tickets. Remember – this is our major fundraiser of the YEAR! Your donation for a ticket, even if your name isn’t drawn, provides ongoing support for the local BVTE chapter as well as support to local students planning to attend UT. This is the annual opportunity for our local Longhorns to show support! Help keep our beautiful burnt orange shining in Aggieland!

***As we have previously shared, Bobby Burton of “On Texas Football” was scheduled to speak at our dinner. However, Bobby relayed last week that our event is the final day of “Media Days” and Coach Sark is the very last speaker that day; certainly this is not something he wants to miss. We are now excited to welcome Rod Babers as our event speaker - ! If you need an introduction to Rod, the following clip offers a glimpse of his time at UT in 2002 as a Defensive Back. He’s a Texas native and was drafted by Detroit in 2003.

If you weren’t planning to attend our scholarship dinner before…now is your opportunity for a personal interaction with a Texas legend! ***
