Meet SteelHorse Stampede

Meet our headliner for our last concert of the Live in Colfax season. SteelHorse Stampede brings a high-energy mix of country, rock and classics to Historic Main Street.

Frontman Johnny D brings some serious credentials to the stage. He earned a Top 10 spot on Nashville Star and has shared stages with some of country music’s biggest names, including Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Joe Diffie and Tracy Byrd.

SteelHorse Stampede is built for a live crowd — big guitars, familiar songs, country favorites and the kind of music that makes you want to get out of your chair.

Catch them Saturday, September 26 for the final Live in Colfax concert of the season.

Main Street turns into a market again this week — fresh produce, warm bread, handmade goods from people who live right here. 🌽

You'll find the same vendors who show up week after week, keeping small farms and home kitchens in business one Thursday at a time. Sierra Vista Community Center runs the whole thing, rain or shine.

This is what a working downtown looks like on a Thursday night — food truck for dinner, string lights up, Main Street full.

Thursday, Sept 3, 4pm-7:30pm, South Main St between Grass Valley St and Church. See you down there?

Southern Pacific Caboose 863 has become a pretty familiar sight in downtown Colfax — flags up, benches out front, and usually a Sierra sky showing off behind it.

But this view is about to change.

The caboose is getting ready to make a move to Depot Park, where it’ll become part of the next chapter of Colfax’s railroad story.

Restored and lettered as SP #863, the caboose represents a C-30-1 caboose that once served on the Colfax local — a fitting tribute in a town whose history was built alongside the railroad.

So next time you come off I-80 at Exit 135, take a look around. There’s a whole lot of Colfax history hiding in plain sight.

And before the caboose makes its move...

Have you ever sat on the bench out front?

Mark it down: Saturday, September 19th, the Colfax Bazaar takes over the Historic Fruit Exchange Building at 229 Railroad St. Doors open at 8am, and by then over 30 vendors will already have their tents up outside.

Walk in and you won't know what you're going to find — vintage, antiques, handmade goods, things that don't fit any category. That's the whole point. Live music plays throughout the day, food trucks are on-site, and this building has been part of that scene since 1910, back when it ran Colfax's fruit-shipping economy. Quiet for decades, now full again several times a year. Step outside and Main Street's right there too, worth the walk.

Coming up from Sacramento, Auburn, Grass Valley, or Nevada City? Exit 135 gets you here, and the Sierra Foothills, two rivers, and Rollins Lake are close enough to make it a full day.
