Happy Spring! Keep in mind while you’re taking care of all that yard work to check the Michigan DNR website to check the Burn Permit status for your county.

https://www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits/

🟩= you are permitted to burn

🟫= no burning is permitted in that county

🟨= use the drop down box to select your county and check for restrictions. Example: open burning is allowed in all townships in Midland after 6pm.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Retired Firefighter Maurice Herkel.

Maurice dedicated many years of service to the Coleman community as a firefighter and was one of our most reliable and skilled pump operators. Even in retirement, he remained a cherished part of our family, never missing our annual dinner where he delighted everyone with his stories from years past.

Our deepest condolences go out to the Herkel family. Thank you for sharing Maurice with us—he will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his daughter Julie Gardner of Florida, Joann Hughes of Farwell, grandchildren Tom & Jenessa Hall, great-grandchildren: Alexa Hall, Raven Hall, Cheyenne Hall, Chianna Becket, Sara Stiles, great-great-grandchildren: Will and Dakota Doss, several nieces and nephews. Maurice was also preceded in death by brothers: Donald, Robert, Rex, Wilbur “Dale”, Duane and sister Barbara Schaar.

Huge shoutout to Robinson Industries for once again donating a pallet of firefighting foam! 🫧

We use a non-toxic, PFAS-free firefighting foam on every fire, and we’re incredibly fortunate that our local companies take such great care in keeping us fully stocked. Support like this makes a huge difference for our community, and we truly appreciate it!
