Lady Bluebird Volleyball: Lady Bluebirds Notch 26th Win in District Semifinal Game: End of season playoffs are underway for High School Volleyball. Cole Camp is the #1 seed in the Class 2 District 12 Tournament held in Stover. Following in order are #2 Stover, Warsaw, Skyline, Tipton, Eugene and Windsor.
Two semi-final games were played October 22nd as Warsaw and Stover tangled in the 6 p.m. game. Warsaw played very well and won 25 - 19, 25 - 14, 25 - 14 over the Lady Bulldogs.
Cole Camp and Tipton took the floor at 7:30 p.m. and Madilynn Ogle served 7 of a 10-1 burst in the 1st set. Leah Allison with a Big Time dig of a kill attempt by Tipton's Kaylee Kuschel. Not only that, then Allison hit the ball over the net for a winner! But a 9-2 answer by Tipton made it a 1 point game midway. Cole Camp with a slim 17-16 lead when Olivia Vansel with a dig and follow-up score touched off a 5 point spurt to lead 22-16. Back came the Lady Cardinals with 4 in a row. Finally a Kristin Carl dig set up an Allison score, and Andrea Dieckman nailed the last point to the floor as Cole Camp won 25-20.
Riley Raetz scooped up a kill just inches off the floor early 2nd set. Andrea with 3 kills early in the set also. After an Aspen Meyer dig and Dakota Dieckman kill, Cole Camp led 11-5. As in the 1st set though, Tipton with a 9-2 run midset. Plus a 4-point add-on later to go up 19 - 16. Dakota pitched in 3 kills but Tipton still led 23-21 and it was intense! Two misfires by Tipton and an Andrea block of Kuschel and Cole Camp was up 24-23. The battle of the tall girls for each team was on! Kuschel with a block, Andrea a kill. Kuschel a kill, ditto for Andrea as the game continued into overtime. Finally a Dakota kill made it 27-26, and a hit out of bounds by Tipton allowed Cole Camp to capture the 2nd set 28-26.
Ogle with a dig / kill combo and Jolee Espey a great defensive dig as the 3rd set began. Meyer with some quick backpedaling for a dig helped to lead 12-7. But in a matter of seconds, Tipton had tied the game at 12. Ogle with one of her backflip surprises stopped their run. Andrea followed with a block and kill as the lead grew to 18-13. Cole Camp closed the door with a very solid 6-point effort with Andrea serving and Espey with a tremendous block of Tipton's hard hittin' sophomore Reese Collier! Cole Camp completed the sweep 25- 16 and will face Warsaw for the District Championship!
Kills: Andrea 16, Dakota 10, Ogle 5.
Digs: Allison 23, Ogle 17, Carl 11, Loganbill 8, Meyer 7, Raetz 5.
Assists: Ogle 30.
Blocks: Espey 5, Dieckman cousins 4 each.
Aces: 7 as a team.
Huge game Tuesday October 27th 7:00 p.m. at Stover. Come support your Lady Bluebirds, and maybe bring a good luck charm! Thank you to Arthur Keuper for writing this article!!
