Just noticed this decided we should have a chat about it. This is a hot topic within the Veteran community. Organizations charging veterans for services that are offered free either by County offices or Veteran Service Organizations. In May, a Federal Judge ruled one of those organizations was filing claims for veterans when they weren't accredited by the Veterans Administration and charging fees to Veterans to do so. With this bill, VA will be allowed to go after those organizations and reinstate criminal penalties.

What does all of this mean and why is it a big deal? In order for someone to file a claim on behalf of a veteran they have to go through certain training and receive an accreditation or privileges, through the Veterans Benefit Administration and through a Congressionally chartered Service Organization (American Legion, VFW, DAV, VVA, etc.). Some of these organizations have not done so. While we don't foresee VA reviewing any claims submitted by those organizations separately and specially in light of all of this, Veterans still need to be mindful of who's trying to help them through the process and what they're filing for. That's why we encourage working with our office or with a VSO from an accredited organization because of the training and experience we all bring.

We support this Bill. All of the military branches teaches their members: Honor, Integrity, Duty (or other synonyms). If you're going to do something, do it the right way. We encourage you, if you agree as well, to reach out to your Senator and let them know that as well.

June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month. It’s a time to recognize and remember that some of the scars that Veterans bear from their Military Service are not visible. PTSD Awareness month is also a time to learn and remember that PTSD Treatment Works. When Veterans engage in evidence-based treatments for PTSD, Veterans can achieve recovery. So why wait?
