Congratulations Baylor Sowell and all who completed the volunteer certification class. Thank you for your service to your communities.

Congratulations to Desoto County’s newest certified volunteer firefighters!

This group of men and women started their journey to become certified volunteer firefighters back in January. They concluded their journey by completing their final check offs at the Mississippi State Fire Academy today.

Thank you for your willingness to serve!

Sending a heart felt sympathy to Chief Jeffery Sowell on the passing of his father. Mr. Kenny was one of founding members of the Greenleaf Volunteer Fire Department and a long time citizen of Greenleaf. Our love and prayers are with his wife Lisa Sowell and all the family members.

All we ask is you make SURE your house hold garbage goes in the dumpster. Thank you.

We tried, but it’s just not safe for our drivers.

Since beginning the garbage collection routes this morning we’ve had two trucks get stuck and one damaged.
In the interests of driver safety, we are going to park the trucks and return to our regular collection schedule Monday, February 9.
In the meantime, we are placing containers for HOUSEHOLD WASTE at eight locations around the county. Most are already in place as of 1:30 Wednesday, February 4. These are for household garbage only. Please don’t load them with old furniture, building materials, or other rubbish.

We are placing:
Two containers at 2891 Sycamore Rd

Two containers as 18670 Hwy 4 E

Two containers at 9164 Arkabutla Rd

Two containers at the DISTRICT ONE SHOP on FLOYD DRIVE. These were moved from Strayhorn High School.

Two containers at Independence High School

One container at Wyatte Fire Department

One container at Greenleaf Fire Department

Two containers at Prime gravel pit 3978 Tig Scott Rd off Hwy 306

This is our community when the weather turns rough. Neighbors helping neighbors, plain and simple.

If you do not have to be on the roads tonight, stay put. If you do, take it slow and give emergency crews the room they need. We will keep responding, bad roads or not.

Thank you to everyone who showed up.

Please take caution and be careful. Responding in this weather will take time
