Thank you Branch County Community Foundation for our recent grant award for our Family Promise Renovation Project!

Grant funds will be used to purchase furniture and other accessories to help create spaces in the Family Promise program that embrace the principles of trauma-informed design and encourage family engagement.

According to Design Resources for Homelessness, trauma informed design “provides actionable guidance intended to help reserve people’s dignity and personal control in the physical environment…to reduce peoples’ perceptions of stress so that those that have experienced trauma can take positive steps to improve their situation.”

What's going on at Family Promise?! If you've driven by The Big Yellow House in the last couple months, you may have noticed some activity...as in some BIG activity. Coldwater Housing Matters received a Homeless Shelter Repair Grant from MDHHS administered by The Salvation Army-Great Lakes Division to repair and renovate the Family Promise shelter! This renovation includes an addition with two additional family sleeping spaces and an office, a kitchen remodel, new flooring and new windows throughout the entire house, as well as central HVAC and other updates. The new addition will double our overall capacity and triple our family sleeping spaces!

Coldwater Housing Matters (CHM) is a non-profit in Branch County, Michigan working to provide safe and affordable housing; to assist, support, and connect persons in need with housing and other resources to support families, neighborhoods, and economic self-sufficiency; and to partner with local agencies to expand services of low to moderate income, including seniors and persons with disabilities.

CHM can serve and connect (and/or provide) anyone experiencing homelessness or in jeopardy of experiencing homelessness to resources.

Family Promise of Branch County is an emergency shelter and case management program under CHM, serving adult women and families with children who are experiencing homelessness. We serve all families with children regardless of family composition. (Two parent families, single mom, single dad, grandparents etc.; and their children.)
