It’s Medicare Fraud Prevention Week, a good reminder that protecting your Medicare information matters.

Medicare fraud can happen through phone calls, texts, emails, mail, or even door-to-door offers. Be cautious of anyone offering “free” medical equipment, asking for your Medicare number, or pressuring you to sign up for services you don’t understand.

A few red flags to watch for:
• Offers that seem too good to be true
• Calls claiming you need to “activate” your Medicare card
• Unexpected charges or services on your Medicare Summary Notice
• Requests for your Medicare number from someone you don’t know

Elder abuse can take many forms, and it’s often hidden in plain sight.

It may show up as physical harm, hurtful words, financial exploitation, neglect, or other forms of mistreatment.

It can happen at home, in the community, or in care settings, sometimes by someone an older adult knows and trusts.
