Freezing Water Service Line Notice – 1/22/26
Due to the continuous extreme cold weather we are experiencing, the frost table has potentially
reached a level that has impacted service lines with some property owners.
You can help prevent lines freezing during extreme cold and depending on the vulnerability of
freeze at your home, by letting the water run a size of a pencil lead to the size of a pencil from a
faucet (1/8 – 1/4 gallon per minute) which will approximately equal 500-700 gallons a day at a
cost of approximately $5 -$7 a day on your Water Utility Bill.
A possible indicator of an impending water service line freeze up is a drop in the water pressure
or the temperature, which should be around 45 degrees. If the temperature drops to 40
degrees, you may have an impending freeze up and the frost may be getting close to you service
line… which can be a warning sign you need a steady stream of water.
Please note the possibility of frozen water lines will increase when the outside temperature rises
and drives the frost downward.
While these precautions are not guaranteed to prevent frozen lines, they will substantially
reduce the risk until temperatures are more temperate. This will be to your benefit
