The Bicycle Rodeo originally scheduled for Saturday, June 20th has been rescheduled and will now take place during this year’s National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4th at Lansing Park! More details will be shared soon.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming a group of international visitors from the Kyrgyz Republic participating in the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program, coordinated locally by the International Center of the Capital Region. It was an engaging and informative exchange, highlighting many similarities in law enforcement across both countries.
We are grateful for the opportunity to connect and build these meaningful international partnerships.

On Thursday, June 11, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., members of the Cohoes Police Department executed a search warrant at 204 Columbia Street following a complaint related to a neighbor dispute in which it was reported that a resident displayed a long gun.

As a result of the investigation and search warrant, Oliver Deno, 22, of Cohoes, New York, was taken into custody without incident.

During the ex*****on of the search warrant, detectives recovered a Kel Tec Sub 2000 .40 caliber S&W, a FN 15 multi-caliber assault weapon, two (2) 45 round capacity magazines, three (3) 30 round capacity magazines and Body Armor.

Deno has been charged with the following:

Five (5) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree – Ammunition Feeding Device (Class D Felony)

Two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Firearm (Class E Felony)

One (1) count of Unlawful Purchase of Body Armor – First Offense (Class A Misdemeanor)

Deno was arraigned in Cohoes City Court before the Honorable Judge Knowles and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bail bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

On Saturday, June 6, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers responded to a report of suspicious activity involving multiple individuals and a firearm in the area of Congress Street and White Street. Callers reported that two males exited a U-Haul van and attempted to enter a residence, while another individual remained inside the vehicle.
Officers quickly located the white U-Haul van traveling through the area. After observing multiple traffic violations, officers conducted a high-risk stop on Bedford Street. The driver, identified as Raesawn Evans, 20, of Cohoes, New York, complied with commands and was taken into custody without incident. A passenger, a 15-year-old juvenile from Albany, New York, briefly fled on foot but was apprehended moments later. The remaining occupants Jayden Robinson, 18, of Albany, New York; a 16-year-old juvenile from Cohoes, New York; and a 13-year-old juvenile from Cohoes, New York were safely detained without incident.
At the same time, a New York State Police K-9 Trooper and members of the Green Island Police Department responded to assist with the investigation. All individuals were transported to the Cohoes Police Station for processing, and contact was made with the juveniles’ legal guardians.
During the investigation, officers recovered a red handgun and a 15 round g***k magazine from inside the vehicle. The firearm was determined to be a “ghost gun” (unserialized frame) equipped and loaded with 14 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition. Additional items, including a ski mask, jacket, and cellphone, were also secured as evidence.
Raesawn Evans, Jayden Robinson, and the three juveniles were charged with the following:
Criminal Use of a Firearm in the Second Degree – Possession of a Deadly Weapon (Class C Felony)
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree – Loaded Firearm (Class C Felony)
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree – Ammunition Feeding Device (Class D Felony)
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree – Possession of a Ghost Gun (Class A Misdemeanor)
In addition to the above charges, Raesawn Evans was issued the following traffic infractions:
Illegal Signal – Less than 100 Feet
Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign
Raesawn Evans and Jayden Robinson were arraigned in Cohoes City Court before the Honorable Judge Knowles and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bail bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday, June 11, 2026.
The three juveniles, ages 13, 15, and 16, were brought before the Albany County Accessible Magistrate the Honorable Judge Raymond. The two juveniles, ages 13 and 15 were lodged at the Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility as pre-arraigned detainees, the 16-year-old juvenile was remanded to the Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility.

The Cohoes Police Department is proud to announce that we have been awarded Accredited Status by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Law Enforcement Accreditation Council.

This achievement reflects a continued commitment that began when Mayor Bill Keeler first took office, prioritizing the modernization of policies, enhancing transparency, and strengthening public trust.

Accreditation requires a comprehensive review of departmental policies and operations to ensure compliance with over 100 recognized best practice standards. This designation confirms our adherence to those standards and reinforces our dedication to professional and accountable policing.

For our community, this recognition represents something meaningful as it provides independent confirmation that the Cohoes Police Department operates with transparency, accountability, and professionalism while meeting the strict standards established by DCJS. Our members are trained, prepared, and guided by policies designed to serve every member of our community fairly and effectively.

We would like to recognize Assistant Chief Timothy Keefe, our Accreditation Program Manager, who received the John Kimball O’Neil Certificate of Achievement for his leadership and dedication. His countless efforts were instrumental in successfully guiding the department through this rigorous process while ensuring continued compliance.

Accreditation is an ongoing commitment and a true team effort. We extend our appreciation to all members of the Cohoes Police Department for their contributions in upholding these standards, as well as to Assistant Chief James Condo of the East Greenbush Police Department for his guidance and support throughout the process.

On Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers responded to a report of a person being threatened with a firearm at a residence on Main Street.
Upon arrival, officers located Loren Durkee, 42, of Troy, New York inside a truck behind the property. Durkee was taken into custody without incident.
During the investigation, officers recovered a loaded Browning Arms Buck Mark .22 Long Rifle Pistol and three (3) additional loaded magazines on the individual’s person. In total, thirty-six (36) rounds of ammunition were seized along with .2 grams of Methamphetamine.
Durkee was charged with the following:
Criminal Use of a Firearm in the 2nd Degree-Possession of Deadly Weapon (Class C Felony)
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree-Loaded Firearm (Class C Felony)
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree-Previous Conviction (Class D Felony)
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree- Ammunition Feeding Device (Class D Felony)
Criminal Possession of a Firearm in the 3rd Degree-Possession of a Firearm (Class E Felony)
Menacing in the 2nd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class A Misdemeanor)
Four (4) Counts of Unlawful Possession of Certain Ammunition Feeding Device (Class B Misdemeanors)
Durkee was arraigned in Cohoes City Court before the Honorable Judge Galarneau and remanded to Albany County Correctional Facility without bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
