In 2020, the Coeur d’Alene Police Department investigated a report of sexual assault involving a local tattoo studio. At that time, the case could not move forward because the allegation could not be substantiated.

Detectives have recently learned that Daniel Hansen, a 63 year old man who operated a tattoo studio in Coeur d’Alene, was arrested in Mesa County, Colorado, on sexual assault charges. Hansen was known locally in the tattoo community as “Daemon Cusco” and previously as “Popeye.”

CDAPD is now working with the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to re-examine the 2020 case. Investigators believe there may be additional individuals in the community who were victimized by Hansen between October 2020 and May 2026. Anyone with information or who believes they may have been a victim is urged to contact Detective Knisley at (208) 666 5739 or [email protected].

********UPDATE - BOTH BOYS LOCATED********

The Coeur d’Alene Police Department would like to thank the Coeur d’Alene and Spokane communities for their assistance in locating Elijah Boerner and Michael Magee. The boys were found in Washington after an alert citizen recognized them from the information shared publicly and contacted local law enforcement. Family members have since picked them up, and both are now safely back home.

Thanks to the awareness and quick action of responsible community members, both boys are safe.

The Coeur d’Alene Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating Elijah James Boerner, a 15 year old who reportedly ran away earlier today with another juvenile, Michael Robert Magee. Boerner’s parents know the two left on bicycles. The two have talked about going to a variety of locations including California, Oregon, Texas, and Florida.

Both boys had access to some money to use. Boerner's parents also discovered information suggesting he may be trying to obtain a false ID and had been planning to run away. The families believe the two boys are likely to still be in the Spokane area.

At approximately 3:50 p.m. today, Coeur d’Alene Police officers responded to the area of W. Wilbur Avenue and N. Pinegrove Drive following a report of a possible threatening incident involving a school bus.

A dispatcher with the Coeur d’Alene School District transportation department reported that a student on a bus had a glass bottle and was allegedly threatening other students. At the time of the call, the bus was carrying one adult and approximately 35 students and had stopped to await law enforcement.

Officers arrived quickly and conducted an on-scene investigation. After speaking with the bus driver and multiple students, officers determined that while a student did have a glass bottle, there was no evidence that any threats were made toward others. The driver told the student to either dispose of the bottle in the trash or secure it in a backpack; however, the student did not comply. The situation caused concern among several students on board.

The safety of students remains a top priority for the Coeur d’Alene Police Department. Incidents of this nature are taken seriously, and officers will continue to respond and investigate to ensure our kids are safe.

Local woman arrested for hit and run after striking two vehicles.

Officers with the Coeur d’Alene Police Department responded at about 1:30 p.m. to a reported hit-and-run at the Exxon gas station, located at 2105 N. 4th St.

The suspect, later identified as Julie A. Clock, struck a vehicle in the parking lot before backing onto N. 4th St. at a high rate of speed and hitting a second vehicle. Both vehicles sustained significant damage, and at least two people were injured.

Clock then fled south on N. 3rd St. The injured individuals were transported to Kootenai Health for treatment.

Witnesses followed Clock to a residence in the 800 block of N. 11th St. and reported her location to police. Officers responded and attempted to make contact. Clock initially was uncooperative and barricaded in her house. After speaking with officers by phone, she surrendered and was taken into custody.

Clock was arrested on a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident. Clock could face additional charges if officers determine she was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Julie A Clock is a 62-year-old woman from Coeur d’Alene.

On April 28, 2026, at approximately 12:00 p.m., officers with the Coeur d’Alene Police Department responded to a residence in the 3100 block of W. Thorndale Loop for a report of a male experiencing a mental health crisis. The individual, identified as Michael David Leptich, was in a manic state and causing fear with family members on scene.

Officers coordinated with the Mobile Mental Health Crisis Team to provide resources and attempt to resolve the situation peacefully. After more than an hour of engagement, Leptich’s behavior became increasingly aggressive. Mental health personnel and family members subsequently exited the residence for safety reasons.

While Leptich’s mother was working to calm him down, he produced a knife and threatened her, telling her she needed to leave. At that time, she was fearful he was going to hurt her but was able to leave the residence without injury. Due to the escalation, the Coeur d’Alene Police Department SWAT team was requested to respond.

Upon arrival, SWAT officers continued efforts to de-escalate the situation; however, Leptich remained erratic and noncompliant. At one point, Leptich opened the garage door and indicated he intended to leave the residence. When contacted by SWAT officers, he attempted to retreat back inside. SWAT personnel deployed less-lethal tools and a K9 unit to prevent him from re-entering the home and safely took him into custody.

Leptich was transported for medical evaluation prior to being booked into the Kootenai County Jail on charges of Aggravated Assault and Resisting Arrest. Michael David Leptich is a 35-year-old male from Coeur d’Alene.
