The Cocoa Beach Rotary Foundation is excited to continue partnering with the City of Cocoa Beach to provide rescue stations on the beach.
The Rescue Tubes that we are implementing are a proven water safety concept that originated in Hawaii and has been in use since 2008. According to the Rescue Tube Foundation, over 800 rescue tube stations are currently deployed on beaches around the world, including multiple beach communities throughout Florida.
The rescue tubes are designed to be easily removed from the station in an emergency and contain clear safety instructions in both English and Spanish. The tubes include a long rescue strap that allows them to trail behind a rescuer while running or swimming into the water. They are lightweight, can support multiple individuals in distress, and can help stabilize exhausted swimmers until professional responders arrive.
Since the beginning, the Cocoa Beach initiative has been a Rotary-led community project supported by local donors, sponsors, volunteers, residents, and public safety partners. Rotary remains committed to working collaboratively with the City and community stakeholders to ensure that effective beach safety resources continue serving residents and visitors alike.
Our focus remains where it has always been: public safety, community partnership, and saving lives.
