City of Coatesville Police Department The purpose of this page is to inform residents matters of public interest. Do not report crime.

The Patrol Division is supervised by the Patrol Sergeant and is comprised of five corporals, and nineteen police officers who serve as the first line of defense. Officers are assigned to one of three patrol sectors, during their tour of duty, that divide the City, and are responsible for proactive intervention and enforcement as well as community policing. In addition, several officers serve on other specialized units such as the Chester County Municipal Drug Task Force, Major Incident Response Team, and the Western Chester County Emergency Response Team. The Detective Division is comprised of one Detective Sergeant, five detectives, and one patrol officer that serves a four month apprenticeship under the detective rotation program. This division is a specialized unit with the responsibility of handling those investigations that require special expertise. Members of this division are promoted from the ranks of the patrol division and receive extensive training in criminal investigations, evidence recovery, interviews and interrogations. Detectives are subject to be called in for duty 24 hours a day and required to perform after hours, on call duty on a seven day rotating schedule. Narcotic Enforcement involves the efforts of all police officers on a regular basis, including several highly trained detectives who specialize in narcotics investigations, who work diligently with local, state and federal agencies to control and cease any drug activity within the City. The main focus is on individuals involved in the sale, distribution, and use of illegal narcotics and to prevent the illegal use and distribution within the community through proactive enforcement and public awareness. Through collaborations with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the Chester County District Attorney’s office, our Detectives work closely with these agencies to disrupt and defuse drug activity, prosecute drug dealers, and to gather crime related intelligence across Chester County.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that took many lives and changed the lives of so many others. We wish everyone a peaceful Patriot Day, full of solemn remembrance and reflection.

In August, Call Takers and Dispatchers at the 9-1-1 Center tracked and supported 3,319 incidents, averaging 107 per day. Jeremiah and Kaiden were 'caught' doing something right and 'ticketed' for their conduct!

David L Phillips Jr., a 'not so confidential informant,' recently made us aware of their behavior and felt that it would be best if they were held accountable. We agreed. We appreciate David's desire to mentor our youth and making us aware of Jeremiah's and Kaiden's desire to involve themselves in prosocial activities, their respectful demeanors and their love of community. During the intel gathering stage of the investigation, we learned that Jeremiah and Kaiden have been spending time at the outdoor fitness center at Abdala Park. Jeremiah and Kaiden have exhibited appropriate social decorum, respect for the park equipment and a sense of care for others.

Thanks to the generosity of David's Drive, the 'tickets' issued are new bikes. Chester County Highway Safety Project will be providing safety helmets so they can safely ride around The City of Coatesville on their new 'getaway vehicles.'

We thank everyone involved in our 'Catching Kids Doing Something Right' initiative. It's nice to recognize our youth and celebrate their contributions to our community.

Well done, young men! It's kids like you that make Coatesville an even better place to live, work and play.

Brothers and Sisters, It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of retired Coatesville City Police Chief Dennis Alexander.

Dennis W. Alexander “Denny or Big D” 80, of Coatesville, PA (former Chief of Police), also of Oro Valley, AZ, passed away August 17, 2026.

Survived by his wife Mary J. (Ziegler) Alexander, brother Richard, sister, Bonnie Stringer, son Dennis Jr. (Lori Warren), daughter Kristal Alexander (husband Ian Schweibenz), grandson Travis Alexander, Gail Alexander (Mother of Kristal/Denny).

Preceded in death by Mother Phyllis, brothers Charles and Terrence.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hibernia UMC, 220 Hibernia Rd, Coatesville on Sept 20, at 2:00 followed by a luncheon; Wagontown Fire Depart, 412 W Kings Hwy Wagontown, PA.

We thank the talented leaders and staff of Chester County OIC for being wonderful hosts of our monthly 'Coffee with the Chief' program this morning. It was nice interacting with all of the attendees. We appreciate everyone that carved out part of their morning to forge relationships, engage in valuable conversation and share perspectives and/or resources while enjoying coffee and delicious breakfast foods.

Next month, CWTC will be held at The Bridge Academy and Community Center on Wednesday, October 7th, from 8:30am to 10:00am. We look forward to seeing everyone.
