The Local 5593, which represents the firefighters of the Coalgate Fire Department, would like to make a statement regarding the proposed 1-cent sales tax being voted on today.
The proposed sales tax does not specifically state that it will be a 50/50 split. Instead, the funds will be appropriated based on the needs of emergency services (CPD and CFD, which includes the City of Coalgate ambulance service) and the street department. The allocation of funds will be determined and approved by the city council at the beginning of each fiscal year based on those departments needs.
Our questions to you, as citizens of the City of Coalgate, are: Have you or a family member been positively impacted by the City of Coalgate Fire Department and EMS? Do you value the security of having an ambulance service with advanced protocols, highly trained and knowledgeable medics, and an EMS service based in the City of Coalgate? Do you want the best equipment available to save your life or the lives of your family and friends if the need arises?
If your answer is yes to any of these questions, the future success of Coalgate Fire & EMS depends on the proper funding provided by the 1-cent sales tax being voted on today. Without proper funding, response times, staffing, training opportunities, and equipment upgrades could be negatively impacted, ultimately affecting the level of service we are able to provide.
Every call we respond to—whether it’s a house fire, a cardiac emergency, or a serious accident—relies on the training, equipment, and personnel funded by our community. We are committed to the responsible use of these funds and to continuing to provide the highest level of service to the citizens of Coalgate.
