Just a reminder that we are closed until further notice. If you have not heard from Jennifer regarding your reservation for the month of April, please email her at [email protected].

City Hall and Coal Run Community Center will be closed to in-person services and events until at least 06 April 2026 due to an interior water line break that has resulted in heavy damage.

Calls and emails will continue to be answered, but all events will have to be cancelled. If you have an existing reservation, City Hall staff will be reaching out in the coming days to discuss options for refund and/or rebooking.

We apologize for any inconvenience and hope you understand we are all working extremely hard to get back up and running soon.

The Coal Run City Hall will be closed today, February 23rd. Our City Hall staff will be working from home answering phone calls. They can be reached by calling 606-437-6032. We are sorry for any inconvenience. Please stay safe!

‼️ Winter Storm Update for City of Coal Run‼️

29 January 2026 | 7:00pm Update

I really hate to be doing this again so soon 😩 but The US National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the City of Coal Run beginning 6:00am tomorrow and running through noon on Saturday, 31 January 2026.

The official NWS forecast calls for anywhere between 2” to 6” of snow. Essentially what this means is that our chances for more than an inch of snow tomorrow is forecast at 90% with an only 10% chance of 7” or more. We currently have 45% of 4 or more inches of snow.

I feel like I have better odds of telling you who wins the Kentucky Derby 🐎 nearly four months from now than how much snow ❄️ we will get tomorrow.

Snow is expected to be fluffy and not as heavy as the snow we had earlier this week so we expect travel disruption to be the main concern tomorrow morning into Saturday.

Our road crews will be out bright-eyed and bushy-tailed before daylight tomorrow pre-treating hills and will begin plowing and salting, as needed, throughout the day. Please understand, however, that salting will likely have minimal effect due to the extremely cold temperatures.

So bundle up and travel only when it’s safe to do so.

Based on the latest temperature forecast released by the US National Weather Service (NWS) regarding the extreme cold for this week, the City of Coal Run has enacted plans to assist our residents in need with shelter at City Hall. Due to inclement weather, Coal Run City Hall will be closed on Monday, January 26th. We will still be answering phone calls at 606-437-6032 or can be reached by email at [email protected] during our business hours.

The Coal Run Community Center will be opened as a warming center. If you are needing to use our community center during this time, please give us a call.

‼️ Winter Storm Update for City of Coal Run‼️

While the US National Weather Service Jackson Kentucky has not yet issued a Winter Storm Watch for our area of Pike County, the consensus among forecasters is for us to be prepared for double-digit snow totals.

Snow could arrive as early as Friday evening with chances for snow peaking Saturday to Sunday.

Depending on the storm track, there is also a potential for the City of Coal Run to experience ice and/or sleet.

In addtion, this heavy snow event is likely to be followed by an arctic front with near 0° wind chill later next week.

Should the temperatures next week be what Is currently forecast, we will open Coal Run Community Center as a warming shelter to accomodate Coal Run residents in need.

We are continuing to closely monitor the offical NWS forecasts, and we will have more details as we get them but right now is the time for all of us to prepare for a major winter storm.
