Public Notice: Turf Aeration Scheduled to Start Week of May 11
The Coachella Valley Public Cemetery District will be conducting turf aeration throughout the cemetery grounds during the week of May 11. Turf aeration is an essential lawn care practice that involves perforating the soil to improve air, water, and nutrient flow to the grass roots. The process helps maintain healthy, resilient turf, reduce soil compaction and thatch buildup, and improve overall appearance of the cemetery grounds. As part of this process, you may notice small soil plugs left on the turf surface. These plugs are often mistaken for animal waste, but they are simply small cores of soil and grass that naturally break down and return nutrients to the lawn over time. We understand the appearance can be surprising, especially near loved ones’ headstones, and we appreciate your understanding and patience as we complete this important maintenance work.

Public Notice - Mother's Day Traffic Direction
The District will have special traffic flow directions in place for Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10th. This year, Mother’s Day and Mexican Mother’s Day fall on the same day, so we anticipate heavier than usual traffic.

One-way traffic flow will be in effect throughout the cemetery to help ensure roadways move smoothly and lanes are not blocked due to double parking. Please cooperate with security while on the grounds and follow all posted traffic signs and directions. Additional overflow parking will be available on the west side of the cemetery as needed. Please note, you will not be able to enter the cemetery through the east gate, all vehicles must enter through the west gate on Sunday.

For those planning short visits to the cemetery or who would like to “drop and go” for Mother’s Day, we strongly encourage visiting on Saturday for easier access.

Our hours of operation this weekend are from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily. There will be no mowing on Tuesday, May 12th in observance of Mother’s Day.

Proud to share that the Coachella Valley Public Cemetery District recently received the Special District Risk Management Authority Innovation Award for developing a safer headstone-lifting system that eliminates manual lifting and reduces risk of injury. This effort reflects our commitment to employee safety and respectful service to the families we serve.

Due to sustained high winds creating unsafe conditions, the cemetery will be closed for the remainder of today, April 21, 2026.
We will reopen on our regular schedule tomorrow at 7:00 AM.

A kind reminder that beginning this week, April 14, the entire cemetery will be mowed on Tuesdays. Memorial items must be picked up by Monday, today, and may not be returned until Wednesday. Mowing Schedule Change
A kind reminder of the upcoming mowing schedule change.
There will be no mowing this week in observance of Easter. Beginning next week, April 14, the entire cemetery will be mowed on Tuesdays. Memorial items must be picked up by the Monday prior and may not be returned until the following Wednesday. No memorial items are allowed on the grounds at any time on Tuesdays.

The mowing schedule may be viewed at any time on the District’s website at CVPCD.org. The calendar on that page lists both mowing and no mowing days. To view the calendar, visit our website and scroll down, it is located on the home page about halfway down. We have attached an image so you can see what it looks like. You may view upcoming months by clicking the "Next" button located in the top right corner.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the ribbon cutting for our new Palm Desert office. The Palm Desert Executive Offices and Trustee Chambers mark an important step forward in the District’s ability to better serve our community. This new location allows families on the west side of the District to schedule office appointments and conduct business closer to home. We appreciate the strong turnout and continued support from our community and regional partners!

New Mowing Schedule Begins April 14
Beginning April 14, all mowing will take place on Tuesdays throughout the entire cemetery. Memorial items must be removed by Monday evening and may be returned starting Wednesday.
This change will make the schedule easier to follow and reduce confusion for visitors. For full details on this change and the reasons behind it, please see our recent newsletter article on page 4, link provided below.
