Today, we remember September 11, 2001, and the lives forever changed that day.

We honor the innocent lives lost, the families who continue to carry their memories, and the first responders and everyday heroes who showed extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Twenty-five years later, we remember the strength of a nation that came together, stood united, and showed the world what it means to be American.

We will never forget.

American History Tidbit for Today!

On September 2, 1945, representatives of Japan and the Allied powers gathered aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. In a ceremony lasting less than 30 minutes, they signed the Instrument of Surrender and formally brought World War II to an end.

Overlooking the ceremony was a historic 31-star American flag carried into Tokyo Bay by Commodore Matthew Perry nearly a century earlier. Its presence connected two defining moments in the history between the United States and Japan.
