Get ready for our third annual Hike-A-Thon! The Hike-A-Thon is a peer-to-peer fundraiser in which participants can help raise money to support the Closter Nature Center’s educational and reforestation projects, win prizes, and hike with the community. All are invited to register now or donate by going to closternaturecenter.org/calendar/hike-a-thon-2026.

Help us celebrate Nature Marc’s 25th anniversary at Closter Nature Center! Since 2001, our Naturalist, Marc Gussen, has been educating our community, conserving our forest, and bringing us all closer to the natural world.

Go to closternaturecenter.org to learn how you can participate in the celebration:

1. Donate to Marc’s anniversary gift fund
2. Write a personal note, message, or memory for Marc
3. Attend the celebration party at the Cabin on Sunday, September 27 at 3pm

Closter Nature Center has been proud to partner with both Scouting America and the Girl Scouts of America, providing access to nature, educational programs, and project opportunities for prospective Eagle Scouts and Gold Award Recipients.

What I know from six years of leading Troop 163 is that these girls invigorate scouting rather than weaken it.

Since 1962, CNC has been a backdrop for trail walks, summer camp adventures, and community memories. We are currently building a historical collection to document our journey over the last 60+ years, and we need your help digging through the archives!

If you have vintage photos tucked away in photo albums or attic boxes—or if you simply have favorite stories and memories from over the years—we’d love to feature them.

We are proud to preserve a green oasis of forested wetlands within Bergen County and we work hard to ensure that it remains healthy and resilient!

Since 2017, our Reforestation Initiative has aimed to restore a healthy ecological balance, as over 25% of our forest canopy is under immediate threat. Thanks to science-based methodology and hard work by volunteers and partners, we are making great strides! From 2023-2026, over 1,000 native trees and shrubs have been planted and maintained in our reserve.

🌿 Things are looking incredibly lush and green along the Blue Loop Trail!

Check out these thick plots of ferns thriving along the path. Fun fact: these plants are true evolutionary survivors. They first appeared about 360 million years ago—meaning they were already ancient history by the time T. rex walked the Earth! 🦖
