Committee to Re-Elect Barad & Di Dio

Committee to Re-Elect Barad & Di Dio David Barad and Robert Di Dio are running for re-election to the Closter Borough Council. Please consider giving us your vote on November 7th.

We are Councilmen David Barad and Robert Di Dio running for re-election to the Closter Borough Council as Republican Candidates. Closter has been able to maintain its public services without major increases in property taxes by using carefully planned budgets, long term planning to maintain our roads, careful negotiations with our venders and fair but frugal contracts with our borough employees. W

e have maintained Closter’s open spaces and park lands, encouraged recreational use, nature trails and the nature center. We worked to foster responsible development as evidenced by the fact that Closter Plaza has finally become a reality. Now it’s time to roll up our sleeves and begin work on further revitalization of Closter’s business district. With the establishment of a new and revitalized Closter Plaza there will be an increase in commercial value of the Plaza and a proportional decrease in the share of taxes to be borne by Closter residents, this change should occur over the next few years as the Plaza becomes fully occupied. To allow timely re-apportionment of taxes in this rapidly changing environment your council has moved to an annual re-evaluation of property values. This should enable us to stabilize your tax burden as the new Plaza continues to prosper and grow. For many years, New Jersey’s suburban communities have been under pressure from the state to provide opportunities for affordable housing. Today it has been left to the courts to decide what each community’s “share” of affordable housing should be. If Closter does not fulfil this court-mandated obligation, we run the risk of creating an opportunity for a “developer’s remedy” in which developers would be allowed to build housing units of which only 10 to 15% would be “affordable” and the remainder would be market price. Those developers would operate outside of our local zoning ordinances. Such projects could mean loss of parkland and open space, to be replaced by high density complexes that would change the nature of our community. Robert Di Dio and David Barad will continue to work along other elected officials to avoid the over-development and loss of quality of life in Closter that a developer’s remedy would bring. It has been a privilege for us to have served as your councilmen. We respectfully request that you, your family, and friends vote for Robert Di Dio and David Barad on Tuesday, November 7th, 2017.

To the Editor:

I am writing in support of the re-election campaign for Closter Councilmen David Barad and Robert Di Dio. Both Councilmen have served the Boro of Closter in distinguished fashion and deserve another term in office.

At a time when so much of our political discourse is characterized by bombast and bluster, it is refreshing and reassuring to have the steadying and thoughtful presence of Dr. David Barad on the Closter Council. I have known David for over ten years and have always been impressed by his ability to work through reasoned and fair positions on complex issues by listening carefully to all stakeholder voices. He brings the same diagnostic and compassionate principals honed in his medical practice to the Closter Council.

Bob Di Dio and I served together for multiple years on the Closter Planning Board. Accordingly, his attributes are readily apparent to me. Mr. Di Dio has brought his administrative skills as a former high school principal first to the Closter Planning Board and presently to the Closter Council. Bob was instrumental in shepherding the highly successful re-development plan for Closter Plaza through the Closter Planning Board.

To reiterate, both Councilmen have earned the vote of Closter residents. I wholeheartedly support their re-election to the Closter Council.

The Closter DPW is responsible for maintenance of our Boroughs streets and roads. I think they do a great job and I am surprised that Scott Devlin and Dolores Witco have chosen to criticize their work. They used pictures of a storm drain from the Borough Hall parking lot, which is currently undergoing reconstruction, to malign the work of their fellow party member Jannie Chung, who has been DPW Commisioner for the last two years. Don’t believe them. Vote for people, not party.

Dear Closter,
Today our opponents, Scott Devlin and Dolores Witko, sent an email attacking Arthur Dolson, one of the best administrators this borough has had in many years.

Our opponents suggest that Arthur recieved campaign funds, this is NOT TRUE. In fact, our campaign has no paid employees and no one, except our vendors, has recieved any campaign funds.

Our opponents say that a paid political operative can't serve the residents. Does Scott Devlin intend to give up his paid full time for job working for a Democratic assemblyman?

Our opponents claim that we raised taxes. So we did, along with Democrats Jannie Chung and Brian Stabile. WE ALL worked to keep those increases as small as possible. Remember that a major portion of our tax burden supports our excellent schools, with school budgets developed while Dolores Witko served as a school board member.

Let your council continue its work. Everyone on the council is a person of integrity and character. It is too simple to try to paint anyone with the broad brush of a party. Party affiliation has not influenced the outcome of any vote. All voting in the past two years has been unanimous. We are all individuals working to maintain the great town in which we live. Please let us continue to do so.

Please remember to VOTE on Nov 7th based on the person, not the party. Please consider voting for David Barad and Robert Di Dio

Today many people were surprised to see the old Closter Plaza sign coming down. Eden's will be replacing the sign with a refurbished version in the same design, restoring the sign to what it was in its heyday. I've attached an image of the design that Edens presented to the planning board. (Please share this post)
