Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa The Fond du Lac Band is one of six Chippewa Indian Bands that make up the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe.

The Fond du Lac Reservation was established by the La Pointe Treaty of 1854.

🚌 Grand Portage Overnight Trip! 🌊

📣Fond du Lac Elder Happenings Announcement:

Brought to you by your Fond du Lac Elder Activities & Advocacy Team, there is an exciting overnight trip coming up for our Fond du Lac Elders (ages 52 and older).

📆Join us for a trip to Grand Portage on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

The group will take a scenic tour of the area and will plan to visit the Witch Tree, which is also known as the Spirit Little Cedar Tree. Along with a visit to Fort Charlotte and the High Waterfalls inside Grand Portage State Park.

Trip Details:
📍The bus leaves from the Tribal Center at the ENP Doors at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, October 21.
📍The bus departs from the Grand Portage Lodge at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 22.
📍Dinner and breakfast are included.
📍Hotel rooms are double occupancy, so please make sure to sign up with a roommate.
📍There is a 50.00 dollar deposit required to hold your spot. This will be given back to you once you are on the bus.
📍Space is limited to 50 seats total.

🔒To secure your spot, please sign up at the Cloquet Community Center ENP. Registrations will be taken from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on these three dates: 📆September 30th, October 7th, and October 14th.

📣On behalf of our Fond du Lac Band’s Agricultural Division & Gitigaan Program, we want to encourage everyone to 🗓️ Save the Date for Saturday October 3rd from 10AM - 2PM for the annual Giizhimiijimetaading (Finishing Foods Together) Festival.

🍁Giizhimiijimetaading will be our time to come together as a community and celebrate the closing of our 2026 Growing season at the Gitigaaning.

There will be plenty of crafts, Tribal food sovereignty demonstrations, and foods prepared by Native chefs and Native-owned businesses.

📢 Labor Day Closure Reminder

As our Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa prepares to observe Labor Day on Monday, September 7, we want to remind everyone that all tribal programs and buildings will be closed for the holiday.

✅ We encourage community members to plan ahead and complete any appointments, visits, or service needs before Monday.

🌾 2026 Manoominikewin Season Opening
On behalf of our Fond du Lac Band’s Natural Resources Department and our rice chiefs, we want to share that Fond du Lac Band’s lakes will open for manoomin harvest beginning this Saturday, September 5.

📍 An opening ceremony will take place at the Perch Lake landing at 8:30 AM on Saturday morning for anyone who wishes to attend.

📜 Harvesting Regulations and Hours

⏰Harvest allowed 9 AM to 3 PM during the first week
⏰After the first week, harvest allowed 9 AM to sunset
🪶 Band members may bring one non Band guest with a valid Minnesota ricing license or their own Tribe’s license
🦆🚫 Waterfowl hunting prohibited on Perch, Rice Portage, Deadfish, Jaskari, and Mud Lakes until October 1
🚫No boat limits and no Elder only lake designations
♻️ Please harvest with care and do not harm the plant
♻️ Leave no garbage behind

🌊 Lake Conditions
• Perch Lake — Excellent
• Rice Portage — Excellent
• Deadfish — Excellent
• Jaskari — Fair to Good
• Mud Lake — Good

🌾 Purchasing Green Manoomin for Processing and Restoration
Our Fond du Lac Band will purchase manoomin from all willing harvesters.
• Price: 6 dollars per pound
• Daily purchasing hours: 12 PM to 5 PM
• Daily limit: Up to 500 pounds per person
• Location: Fond du Lac Natural Resource Garage at 38 University Road, Cloquet, MN
• Payment: Distributed at the Resource Management building’s Conservation Clerk window
• Natural Resources staff will inspect and weigh manoomin before issuing a payment slip.

The Band will purchase manoomin from our Fond du Lac Reservation lakes and from regional Off Reservation waters. Off Reservation purchasing will begin at the same time that we open and begin purchasing from on reservation. When the Off Reservation reseeding quota of 8,000 pounds is reached, purchasing will end.

If you are traveling from far away, please call the Resource Management Reception Desk at 218 878 7101 to confirm that seed is still needed.

Staff may refuse purchase if manoomin is not fresh and clean.

Band members harvesting in Wisconsin waters need:
• A NAGFA ID
• A Wisconsin ricing permit Available from Terri Redding at the Conservation Clerk window.

Our Fond du Lac Ojibwe School Girls Volleyball Team 🏐 has released their fall schedule, and we want our students to feel the full strength of our Nation behind them. Every match is a chance for them to grow, compete, and represent our school with heart.
