Tonight, Halls Fire Department recognized 15 members for 25 years or greater, of service. After a meal & desserts, Lapel Pins were presented by Mr. Jay Howell of the North Carolina State Firefighters Association. Congratulations to these fireman, who continue to support the FD and their community, as active fireman and/or board members.

🚜🌾 Public Notice: Wheat Field Burning Season 🌾🚜

As wheat harvest season begins across Sampson County, residents may notice smoke from fields throughout the area. Many local farmers utilize controlled burns to remove crop residue and prepare their fields for the next planting season. These burns are a common agricultural practice and are typically conducted under controlled conditions with careful monitoring.

If you see smoke or a field being burned, there is generally no cause for alarm. However, if you observe a fire that appears to be spreading beyond the intended area, threatening structures, or appears to be out of control, please call 911 immediately so emergency personnel can respond and assess the situation.

The NC OSFM is proud to announce more than $12 million in Volunteer Fire Department Fund grants awarded to fire departments across North Carolina for FY26. This year, 463 volunteer fire departments received funding to help purchase lifesaving equipment, turnout gear, rescue tools, apparatus, and complete critical capital improvements that enhance firefighter safety and emergency response capabilities. From turnout gear and rescue equipment to new brush trucks and station improvements, these grants directly support the firefighters who protect communities across our state every day.

In 2026, additional departments were able to receive funding due to the availability of lapsed 2025 funds that were returned and redistributed through the program, allowing even more departments to benefit from this important funding opportunity. Volunteer firefighters remain the backbone of emergency response in many North Carolina communities, and OSFM is proud to continue investing in their safety and success.
