On Thursday, May 21st, 2026, at approximately 3:20 PM, the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-Central arrested 66-year-old James Simonson of Clinton in Clinton.

Simonson has been charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person in connection with a shooting that occurred in late June of 2025, on Main Street in Clinton. As a result of the incident, 68-year-old William ā€œBillā€ Parent of Clinton died from the injuries he sustained.

An autopsy was conducted at the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, which determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds and the manner of death homicide. Simonson was transported to the Kennebec County Jail where he is being held without bail. No further details will be released at this time.

Found almost immediately a friend of one of our officers called him and said that she found it!!
We will facilitate the reunion!
Good morning, we need your assistance.
Yesterday one of our residents lost his tackle box between the berry farm on battle ridge and his home on the hill road he went across the Goodrich road then left to his home.

We still have some items from our facebook fame days and certainly will reward you with a coffee mug if you return it.
He has several items in there that contain irreplaceable memories!

Members of the public can never understand how someone like this Trooper can quickly without hesitation jump into a situation with excitement and drive to end the dangerous situation.
In seconds things happened and he gave his life.
He didn’t loose his life because he chose to get involved.
Everyone in public safety grieves with your family because you were supposed to be going home.
Trooper Trainor you are an example to us Rest Peacefully Sir!

The Massachusetts State Police announce the line-of-duty death of Trooper Kevin Trainor, 30, who was senselessly killed this morning by a wrong-way driver.

At the conclusion of his public safety detail shortly before 2 a.m., Trooper Trainor began his commute home. Minutes later, 911 received a call reporting a wrong-way driver traveling South on Route 1 North in Lynnfield. Several dedicated Troopers converged on the area and located the vehicle traveling the wrong way at 2:03 a.m. One minute later, at 2:04 a.m., the vehicle collided with Trooper Trainor’s cruiser.

While nothing will ever repair the pain we feel today, we make a solemn promise to never forget Trooper Trainor and his service to the Commonwealth. Kevin served as a Corrections Officer in Essex County before joining the State Police as a member of the 88th Recruit Training Troop. In his decorated career, he mentored new Troopers as a Field Training Officer or ā€œTrooper Coach,ā€ earned a place on the prestigious Troop Community Action Team, set the standard for professionalism, and patrolled our roads with a singular focus: keeping the people of this Commonwealth safe.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Trooper Trainor’s classmates have shared stories of his genuine care and concern for others. As one person put it, ā€œhe was the guy you wanted as your backup.ā€

Colonel Noble said in his remarks this afternoon, ā€œMake no mistake: Trooper Trainor saved lives this morning. His courage – his commitment to serve the citizens of the Commonwealth and put his life on the line – prevented an even greater tragedy. He will be remembered as a hero.ā€

We deeply appreciate the outpouring of support from our Governor, the Secretary of Public Safety, and friends in Massachusetts and across the country. We will remember and honor this extraordinary man, son, fiancƩe, and friend who gave his life for others.

Good morning I wonder if he won anything on his lottery ticket?

He also grabbed a beat box out of the Beer Cave!
Thank you for the Messages he has been charged.

Three years ago, Rusty handed me the keys to this page.

We had just over 5,000 followers…which, at the time, felt like a lot. The goal was simple…put out information, make it readable, and maybe, just maybe, not sound like every other generic police department post on the internet.

Somewhere along the way, this thing took off.

What started as updates turned into a page people actually looked forward to. We built something that made people laugh, kept people informed, and at times, actually helped us do the job. We’ve identified people, recovered stolen property, and yes…even convinced a few of you that no, you still cannot outrun a Motorola or a Kenwood (Chad).

More than anything though, we connected with people. Real people. And I’ve heard from more than a few who said this page helped them get through a tough day. That part sticks with you.

So this one’s a little different.

I’ve decided to step away from running the Clinton PD page.

I’m still here with the department, still doing the administrative side, still behind the scenes. You’re just not going to see me behind the keyboard on this page anymore.

The page will continue with regular updates and information from the department.

To everyone who followed, shared, commented, or even just sat back and watched…thank you. Seriously. You made this what it was.

And Chief Bell (he hates the title and prefers Rusty but I have to go out with a bang)…thanks for trusting me with it three years ago. You probably didn’t think it was going to turn into…this. You can now cancel the subscribe and save antacids.

Alright, that’s enough out of me.

Give us a shout if you need us.

To the Residents of Clinton, especially those on Outer Main Street:

I hear you. I’ve seen the comments and I’ve talked to the neighbors. You’re frustrated with the "madness" on the river side of Outer Main Street, and as your Chief, I want to have a straight conversation about what we’re doing, what we’re up against, and why things aren’t always as "silent" as they seem.
āš–ļø
THE BUDGET & STAFFING REALITY: HELP US HELP YOU
Right now, the Clinton PD is a small but dedicated team, but we are spread incredibly thin. We are currently allowed just 3 full-time officers and 25 hours a week for myself. With one officer currently at the Academy, our daily patrol is just two guys supplemented by part-time help. We handle roughly the same call volume as Winslow or Oakland, but with a fraction of the staff.

This year, there will be a vote to add a much-needed 4th full-time officer to our department. The budget committee did not recommend it due to tax concerns, and while I understand their position, our current staffing is simply not enough to be everywhere at once. We need your help at the polls to change this.
šŸš”
WE ARE GETTING RESULTS
Despite the thin line, we aren’t sitting still. In the last week alone, we arrested 6 individuals affiliated with local drug spots—with a local deputy providing critical help by taking 4 of those individuals into custody himself.
Major Drug Seizures: Last year, we took over 2,000 grams of drugs off our streets. This year, a single stop netted over 6 lbs.
Justice for Victims: Roger Smith recently presented cases that resulted in nearly 50 years of prison time for those who assaulted children.
Direct Action: Officer Josh recently recovered "Debbie’s" stolen car after a chase into Skowhegan, returning it undamaged.
šŸ”Ž
UPDATE ON THE BODY RECOVERED (BILL’S CASE)
We worked tirelessly to find Bill. We never stopped searching or interviewing. Based on information we gathered in July, the State Police evidence team came to town and located him.
Why the silence? Once the Medical Examiner determined the death was not natural, the case legally became a State Police investigation. We no longer have jurisdiction and, by law, it is not our place to release details. The State Police team is also managing a heavy caseload (having handled 8 homicides last summer alone), but the investigation is active.
šŸ˜ļø
ADDRESSING THE PROPERTIES & "PROBABLE CAUSE"
Regarding the "madness" and the makeshift shelters: we must operate within the law. We need solid, legal probable cause to enter a property. However, there is movement:

Outer Main (River Side): The property owners are currently going through the legal process of having the occupants evicted. The second we get that court order in hand, we will get them out.
The "Farm": The Town is moving forward here as well. The property has been declared unsafe and uninhabitable. That process is in motion; for further specifics on this, please see Code Enforcement.
The Dogs: Regarding the two starving dogs taunting the neighborhood, we have responded to every single call. We haven’t caught them yet, but we are not ignoring the situation.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
We are doing more with less every single day because we care about this town. We are tired of the madness, too. We’ll keep showing up, keep making arrests, and keep pushing for the resources we need to keep Clinton safe.
Thank you for your patience and for looking out for one another.

8 years ago today, Somerset County Corporal Eugene Cole was killed in Norridgewock.

Most people remember the manhunt.

Cops remember the radio traffic.

That tone in someone’s voice where you know right away this isn’t going to be good.

Small town, middle of the night, one of those calls you’ve done a hundred times without thinking about it.

Until one goes sideways.

That one stuck with a lot of people. It still does.

Nothing dramatic to add to it. Just don’t forget him.

Give us a shout if you need us

Gotta give some credit to firefighters/ems…

You ever watch a cop on a scene try to put a nitrile glove on?

EMS throws them on in the blink of an eye…snap snap…both hands done, didn’t even look…already halfway through their OPQRST thing like it’s a rehearsed speech they’ve been waiting all day to give.

Meanwhile there’s a cop off to the side just…stuck on the first one…

Finger goes in…nope, not that one.

Back out.

Now it’s twisted.

Now it’s halfway on and cutting circulation off to one finger.

Now you’re trying to fix it without taking it off.

Now somehow you’ve got three fingers in one slot and none where they’re supposed to be.

EMS is already three steps ahead, doing actual patient care…

And the cop is still standing there like,

ā€œHold on…this one’s being difficultā€¦ā€

It’s not the glove.

It’s never the glove.
