The Town of Kirkland Democratic Committee The Democratic Committee for the Town of Kirkland, Oneida County, New York State.

KIRKLAND DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE--WHO WE ARE

• We are a duly constituted sub-committee of the Oneida County Democratic Committee and registered as such with the state Board of Elections.

• The Committee consists of as many as twenty official members, two members to represent each of the ten districts in the Town of Kirkland.

• Other non-official individuals also attend the monthly meetings and hel

p with our various activities.

• Our mission is to support the election of Democratic candidates for public office who will champion the freedoms guaranteed in the Constitution and work towards legislation based on progressive moral values, in our local community, state, and nation. WHAT WE DO

• Attend our monthly meetings as well as about four or five county meetings during the year.

• Obtain signatures on petitions for our candidates, as well as ourselves, every March.

• Raise public awareness of the Democrats by sponsoring an informational film series, marching in the 4th of July Parade, and cleaning a section of Highway 12B twice a year.

• Send out a limited number of fundraising letters every year.

• Work for Democratic candidate victories by helping with some of these activities:
• Recruiting and screening candidates
• Presenting the candidates to the community at the September Gathering on the Green
• Stuffing campaign materials in door hanger bags at a party in October
• Organizing a literature drop in the villages of Clinton and Clark Mills and mailing our own brochure to non-walkable areas two weeks before Election Day.
• Making sure we get out the vote by calling voters who have not yet voted on Election Day
• Having fun in all our activities while working to achieve our mission

Jay Kuo says, "I’m often asked what else ordinary people can do in this era of democratic backsliding besides donating, letter writing and calls, and making their voices heard online and in the streets. All of those are important, but actual local organizing will likely prove the most impactful use of time. That means helping get out the vote through phone banking and postcard writing, volunteering for campaigns, or even serving as an election worker or monitor where needed."
