DeWitt County Housing Authority DCHA was established to provide decent & safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, & persons with disabilities.

Applying for housing:

1. Come into the office to pick up an application. If you are unable to come in, you
can call and request to have an application mailed to you.
2. At that time we will make an appointment for an interview. If you are having an
application mailed to you, you will need to c

3. Read through the entire application before you begin to fill it out. Page 7 and 8
of the application lists important information you should know.
4. Fill out pages 2-5 of the application. . Do not mail the application back to
D.C.H.A.!
5. The next step is the interview. Page 6 and 7 of the application lists everything
you will need to bring with you to the interview, including the application.
6. Next, our Resident Coordinator will determine whether or not the applicant
qualifies for government housing. There are several factors when determining
who qualifies but here are a few examples that would disqualify you from being
approved for government housing.

• You must be able to have Ameren utilities in your name. (gas and electric) The
Housing Authority pays water and garbage.
• You cannot owe money to any Government Housing Authority.
• You cannot have been evicted from a Government Housing Authority within the
last 3 years.
• You cannot be a convicted s*x offender.
• You cannot have a methamphetamine charge of any kind

7. You will receive a letter to inform you of your status. If you do qualify for housing
you are put on the appropriate waiting list based on how many bedrooms you
need. As soon as an apartment becomes available we will call you and you will
be asked to come look at the apartment. You can turn down up to 3 apartments
before you are put back at the bottom of the list.
