Another great night at the Laurens County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting with over 200 members present.

Mr. Doug Stewart is one of my favorite people. He served 30 years as Laurens County Farm Bureau President, and lives in District 16.

Serving on Ways and Means committee, we were able to present $35 million to help farmers recover from severe crop loses, drought, and high fertilizer expenses in the 26-27 budget.

Congratulations! Y’all always go above and beyond. Chief Alexander it has been a pleasure watching you grow up as a child, and assume the role of Fire Chief in the town you grew up in.

The Fountain Inn Fire Department has officially received the SC Victim Assistance Network Sexual Assault Forensic Excellence (SAFE) Designation, becoming just the second fire department in Greenville County and the first in Laurens County to earn this 2026 distinction.

Even more significantly, this achievement makes Fountain Inn the first city in Greenville County to have both its Police Department and Fire Department SAFE Designated—a testament to our city's commitment to compassionate, trauma-informed care for survivors of sexual assault.

The designation recognizes agencies whose personnel have completed specialized training in trauma-informed response, evidence preservation, human trafficking awareness, strangulation response, and survivor-centered care.

Congratulations to Chief Russell Alexander and every member of the Fountain Inn Fire Department for their dedication to serving our community with professionalism, compassion, and excellence.

Over the last several weeks our state budget has been in conference committee. Conference committees are composed of Senate Finance Chairman and 2 senators appointed by President of the Senate, and Ways and Means Chairman and 2 appointed by Speaker of the House. While I did not serve on Conference Committee, I serve on the full Ways and Means Committee. Community Investments were an issue between the two chambers (more on that later that would be of interest to District 16). On Tuesday the House and Senate passed it, and now it’s headed to the Governor’s office.

Take a look at some of the highlights in the graphics below. A couple not in graphic form was 35 million for farm assistance and 20 million for growing agribusinesses that are in particular interest to District 16.

Great conversations happen over breakfast! It was a privilege to spend time with a valued policyholder and South Carolina Representative Mark Willis. I also had the opportunity to share a special project from my wife, Dr. Kathy L. McMillan-Bennon—Hendrix Finds His Voice, a children's book inspired by the true story of our grandson.
