Hydrant flushing will take place soon and will follow this schedule.

Hydrant Flushing – Spring 2026
7:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Monday, April 13:
Burdett Hill (High School to Summit Street), Harbor, South Meadow, Sterling Street, and Greeley Hill areas.

Tuesday, April 14:
North End (High Street, Main Street, and all side streets to Union Street). Lower Burdett Hill (Beacon Street to Pleasant Street), Grove Street, and Nashua Street areas.

Wednesday, April 15:
Central Park, Water Street (entire length) and all side streets, and the Acre district (from Cameron/Route 70 to Wilson/Clamshell Road, including all streets in between).

Thursday, April 16:
Acre district (Oak Street, Chace Street, Berlin Road, and all side streets), as well as Bolton/Lancaster Road and Woodruff Heights areas.

Friday, April 17:
Reserved if additional time is needed.

Water pressure may be low for short periods during flushing, so residents are encouraged to plan accordingly. If water becomes discolored, run the water until it clears. Using a faucet without an aerator—such as a bathtub faucet—works best.

Contact the Department of Public Works at 978-365-4110

HIGH STREET - SPEED LIMIT REDUCTION:

There has been growing concern from the community, downtown businesses and town departments that vehicular speeds, particularly on High Street, have become a safety problem.

In response, the Select Board, Police Department, DPW, Traffic Committee and Community Economic Development Office have coordinated to lower the speed limit on High Street from 30mph to 20mph. This change is now in place.

New speed limit signs have been installed on High Street reflecting this change. These signs will be paired with new speed markings on the street pavement itself. This work will be done this spring in addition to other public informational efforts.

We hope that drivers will keep this change in mind, slow down and remember that public safety is everyone’s top priority.

CPD will enhance education and enforcement efforts in the area to ensure that drivers are abiding by the new lower speed limits, yielding along with pedestrians in crosswalks, illegal u-turns and other unsafe driving.
