💜 “Everyone needs something from me.”

My parent needs care.
My children need my time.
My spouse needs me present.
My employer needs me to perform.
The bills need to be paid.
The house needs to be managed.
The appointments need to be remembered.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that…

I need me, too.

This is a reality many dementia caregivers quietly live every single day.

You’re not just a caregiver.

You may also be a parent.
A spouse.
An employee.
A daughter or son.
The person managing the home.
The person everyone calls when something goes wrong.

And somehow, you're expected to keep all of those plates spinning while carrying the emotional weight of dementia.

Sometimes you don't need another person telling you:

“You're so strong.”

You need someone to say:

“What can I take off your plate?”

Because the person holding everyone together deserves support, too. 💜

💔 “But your mom seemed perfectly fine when I talked to her.”

Meanwhile, you’re answering the same question again, helping her get dressed, and worrying about what happens when you’re not there.

Then, at the doctor’s appointment, she smiles, chats, and seems more alert.

And suddenly, you wonder… “Will anyone believe what I’m seeing at home?”

This is sometimes called “showtiming”—when someone with dementia appears more capable during a brief interaction than in everyday life.

It doesn’t mean they’re deliberately pretending. And it doesn’t mean you’re exaggerating.

Others may see a good moment. You see the care needed throughout the day.💜

Keep brief notes about what happens at home and share specific examples with their healthcare provider before appointments. Your observations help tell the fuller story.
