π¨ TOWN OF CLIFTON EMERGENCY UPDATE: SAN FRANCISCO RIVER MONITORING π¨
The Town of Clifton management team, in close coordination with Greenlee County, are actively monitoring the water levels of the San Francisco River. Due to heavy rainfall across Southeast Arizona, a Flash Flood Warning is currently in effect for Greenlee County.
Our emergency and management teams are continuously tracking real-time flow data and upstream weather forecasts to ensure our community remains safe. The NOAA is predicting that the water level will rise to 23.37 ft. between 2 and 3 am. At 24 ft. it is likely that minor flooding can occur.
π Current River Status & Plan:
* Where we stand: The river is currently rising. For context, our formal "Action Plan" triggers if the river reaches 22 feet.
* What we are doing: Out of an abundance of caution, resources and emergency equipment are already being strategically staged around town so we can react instantly if conditions change.
The south section of Park Ave. has been closed due to falling rocks in the roadway. Please avoid the area.
Ward Canyon Rd. has been closed due to flooding. Please avoid the area.
π How You Can Prepare:
* Sand & Sandbags: Free sand is available for residents (limit 5 bags per household; please bring your own shovel). Sand locations include Veteranβs Park, Wards Canyon Rd., the Public Works Yard, and The Shovel on Park Ave. Empty bags can be picked up at Town Hall, the Police Department, or Public Works.
* Know the Sirens: If a sudden risk or evacuation becomes necessary, the town's Flood Siren Network will be activated to alert the public.
* Stay Informed: Keep an eye on live river forecasts directly via https://water.noaa.gov/
π Safety Reminder:
Flash flooding can impact local roads and low-water crossings very quickly (including areas near Ward Canyon Rd.). Turn around, donβt drown! Never attempt to drive or walk through running water.
We will post additional updates right here on our Town of Clifton page as the situation develops. Please check in on your neighbors and stay safe, Clifton!
