CAPTAIN COMMUNITY HUMAN SERVICES ONCE AGAIN OFFERING FREE SUMMER MEALS TO SARATOGA COUNTY YOUTH

June 2, 2026 – CAPTAIN Community Human Services (CHS) and its partners, including the United Way of the Greater Capital Region, Mechanicville Area Community Services Center (MACSC), Shenendehowa School District, Regional Food Bank, and C.R.E.A.T.E. Community Studios, are once again offering Free Summer Meals to youth throughout Saratoga County, with a kick-off event taking place on Thursday, July 9th from10:00am – 12:00pm at the Park Ave playground in Mechanicville NY (at the intersection of Park Ave and N6th Ave).

The Free Summer Meals collaboration with local sites and agencies began in 2013. At the time, 4,000 meals were served at six sites to 348 kids. Today, over 13,000 meals are served at 18 locations throughout Saratoga County.

Managed by the NYS Department of Education under the direction of, and through funding from, the USDA, along with supplemental funding from our local United Way of the Greater Capital Region and No Kid Hungry, the Free Summer Meals program provides meals to youth ages 18 and under at locations throughout Saratoga County.

Free Summer Meals will be provided to all youth ages 18 and under at 20 locations throughout Saratoga County from June 26th to September 4th. All open sites are listed on the CAPTAIN CHS
website at www.captaincares.org/summermeals, or families can call 518-371-1185 for more information.

Attendees can expect nutritious, balanced food options with fun activities and farmers market pop-ups at many locations throughout the summer.

Free Summer Meal sites for those who live outside Saratoga County but in the Capital Region (including Albany County, Rensselaer County, Montgomery County, and Schenectady County) can be found at

CAPTAIN CHS offers free summer meals to children and youth ages 18 and under at various locations throughout Saratoga County. No registration required. Serving June through August.

Performing Arts at the Common lineup is here! The first show by the Community Chorus is right around the corner!

What a great lineup we have for Summer 2026! All performances are located at the Clifton Common Stage (14 Clifton Common Blvd, Clifton Park) behind the Senior Community Center and next to the basketball courts. All performances are free, and require no tickets or registration. Shows may be cancelled due to weather and may or may not be rescheduled. Starpoint Church provides refreshments, free of charge, at the Family Shows. Alcohol and to***co products are not allowed on town property. Lawn chairs or blankets are encouraged, as there is no seating provided. Live music performances last between one and two hours; *Family Shows are approximately 45 minutes long and are geared to ages 3 - 10. All are welcome at all performances!

Last Wednesday was a beautiful day for a stroll through Veterans Memorial Park and Mooney Carrese Forest! The next Stewardship Stroll is Wednesday, July 1st at Town Center Park, 1 p.m., meet up at Maxwell Drive entrance parking lot.

Sunday, June 7 at 1 PM at the Vischer Ferry Firehouse

Join Clifton Park Historian John Scherer and Eric Hamilton of the Mohawk Towpath Byway on a bicycle ride along the Erie Canal towpath in the Vischer Ferry Nature and Historic Preserve. Frequent stops will be made along the route to learn about canal history and features such as dry docks, locks and bridges. Distance about 8 miles on level ground. Helmets required.

Country Knolls and Barney Road Pool are now open daily from 12:00-8:00pm! You must be a member of the pools to join! You can either register for the pools through the online Parks and Recreation registration system, or you can come to the Parks and Recreation office and fill out an application!
