A winter Moon worth looking up for! β„οΈπŸŒ•

Tomorrow night, the Full Snow Moon will shine at its brightest, lighting up the sky with a crisp, silvery glow. Named by early Native American tribes for the deep snows of February, this full Moon feels perfectly timed with the heart of winter.

Under clear skies, the Moon will be visible worldwide and will appear among the stars of the constellation Cancer. Keep an eye on the surrounding sky too β€” not far away, you may spot Regulus, the brilliant blue-white star known as the Heart of the Lion in Leo, adding a touch of sparkle to the scene.

Step outside, take a moment, and enjoy this calm and classic lunar display.
Clear skies and happy Moon-watching! 🌌

New York's Agricultural and Farmland Protection Program encourages local governments to work with farmers to protect farmland through planning grants and implementation grants. The program's goals are to preserve the state's farm economy by developing local protection plans, supporting activities like the purchase of development rights (PDR), and addressing pressures like development and large-scale energy projects. Key components include the development of local plans, the use of conservation easements to prevent development, and financial assistance for projects that support the economic viability of farming.

The Town of Clifton Park is building on its efforts of the last 25 years that include exponentially expanding the parks network, permanently protecting 2,000 acres of property and completing long range planning studies to guide the future of our Town. A new Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan is currently under development. It will provide additional resources and ideas to further the Town’s efforts to assist working farms. To date, the Town has protected four farms (more than 258 acres of farmland) using outside grants from Saratoga County Farmland and Open Space Grant Program and the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Farmland Protection Implementation Grant Program. The Town now holds permanent conservation easements on four private farms: King Crest Farm on Grooms Road; Riverview Orchards on Riverview Road; Cloverdale Meadows Farm on Hubbs Road, and Maple Hill Farm on Ashdown Road.

The new plan will outline the desired future state of agriculture for the next10 to 15 years in the Town. Expect to see details about the plan for public review and comment in the first quarter of 2026.

On April 4, 2017, voters in the Shenendehowa Central School District rejected a proposal to sell surplus school land to developer BBL, LLC for $2.05 million for a ShopRite supermarket by a vote of 5,442 to 2,323. The Friends of Clifton Park Open Space were instrumental in leading the fight to force this vote. Thanks to a strong public outcry, a successful petition drive forced the referendum after the Shenendehowa Board of Education initially voted to accept the developer's offer in December 2016.

After stopping the sale of the land for development, on December 5, 2017 voters overwhelmingly approved a new deal to sell the 37 acres to the Town of Clifton Park for $1.1 million to be preserved as a park. The final vote was 2,723 in favor to 535 against.

Town Center Park in Clifton Park, NY officially opened on October 11, 2022, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The next chapter in this preservation story is about to begin. At the Clifton Park Town Board meeting on Weds., July 21, the Board voted to explore and plan for a public trail connection from the Town Center Park to the Library. The wooded trail would provide significant joint benefits to the students of the Shenendehowa Central School District by offering unique outdoor educational opportunities, promoting physical activity and well-being, and providing safe and convenient access to nature for experiential learning and recreation.

Stay tuned .... the success story of the Town Center Park continues to grow!!!!

The Town of Clifton Park is hosting a series of monthly hikes through its many nature preserves and parks. These hikes will be an opportunity for the public to join Clifton Park officials, employees and volunteers on a casual, but informative, hike. These hikes will allow residents the opportunity to gain a renewed appreciation for the many open spaces, trails and parks that Clifton Park has to offer. These hikes will be designed to be informative and educational while also soliciting feedback on potential improvements to each individual area.
