June 18 โ€“ We Remember the Charleston 9

Today, we pause to remember the nine firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Charleston Sofa Super Store Fire.

On June 18, 2007, nine members of the Charleston Fire Department lost their lives while courageously battling a rapidly advancing commercial structure fire. Their dedication, bravery, and commitment to protecting others serve as a lasting reminder of the risks firefighters face every day.

As we honor their memory, we also reflect on the lessons learned from that tragic day and recommit ourselves to training, safety, accountability, and looking out for one another.

Never Forget the Charleston 9

๐Ÿš’ Fun Fact Thursday ๐Ÿš’

๐Ÿ  Can Emergency Responders Find Your Home Quickly?

Visible house numbers can make a critical difference during an emergency.

โœ… Clearly marked address numbers help firefighters, EMS, and police locate your home faster.

โœ… Every second counts when responding to fires, medical emergencies, or other urgent situations.

โœ… House numbers should be:

* Visible from the street
* Large enough to read from a distance
* Contrasting in color from the background
* Not blocked by trees, shrubs, decorations, or snow
* Illuminated or reflective when possible

โฑ๏ธ A few extra seconds spent searching for an address can delay emergency assistance when it matters most.

Take a moment today to check your address numbers. It could help first responders find you faster when every second counts.

๐Ÿš’ Members Continue Their Fire Service Education ๐Ÿš’

Last night, several members of the Cliffwood Fire Company attended a Thermal Imaging and Fire Behavior class after being invited by the Morganville Volunteer Fire Company. The training provided an excellent opportunity for our members to further their knowledge and skills while training alongside fellow firefighters from neighboring departments.

The class was presented by Fire Training and Consultant, LLC and provided valuable insight into thermal imaging technology, fire behavior, and fire dynamics. The training emphasized how thermal imaging cameras can be used to improve situational awareness, firefighter safety, and decision-making on the fireground.

We would like to thank Morganville Fire Department for the invitation and hospitality, and Fire Training and Consultant, LLC for delivering an outstanding and informative program.

Training is a key part of our mission, and opportunities like this help ensure our members remain prepared to provide the highest level of service to the residents of Aberdeen Township and our neighboring communities.

๐ŸŽ† Fireworks Fun Fact & Safety Reminder ๐ŸŽ†

Whatโ€™s legal in New Jersey?
โœ… Hand-held sparklers
โœ… Ground-based sparklers
โœ… Smoke devices
โœ… Party poppers, snappers, and certain novelty items
โœ… Some ground-based sparkling devices and wheels

Whatโ€™s NOT legal in New Jersey without a permit?
โŒ Firecrackers
โŒ Bottle rockets
โŒ Roman candles
โŒ Sky rockets
โŒ Any aerial or explosive consumer fireworks

Remember, even legal fireworks can cause serious injuries and fires. Sparklers can burn at temperatures of up to 2,000ยฐF!

โš ๏ธ Fireworks can quickly ignite dry grass, brush, decks, mulch beds, and even homes. What starts as a small celebration can turn into a devastating fire in seconds.

๐Ÿš’ Fire Safety Tips:
โ€ข Always keep a bucket of water, garden hose, or fire extinguisher nearby when using fireworks.
โ€ข Never allow young children to handle fireworks, including sparklers, without close adult supervision.
โ€ข Only use fireworks outdoors in a clear area away from homes, vehicles, and combustible materials.
โ€ข Never relight a โ€œdudโ€ firework. Wait at least 20 minutes, then soak it with water.
โ€ข Before throwing fireworks away, completely soak all used and unused fireworks in water to ensure they are fully extinguished and cannot reignite in the trash.

๐ŸŽ‡ The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a professional public display.

From all of us at Cliffwood Fire Company, have a safe and happy celebration!

Gear Cleaning, Inspection & Repair Day

Today, Cliffwood Fire Company welcomed RedLine Gear Cleaning, Inspection & Repair to our station to perform professional cleaning, advanced inspections, and necessary repairs on our membersโ€™ turnout gear.

Firefighter turnout gear is our last line of defense against the hazards we face on the fireground. From exposure to heat and flames to carcinogens and other contaminants, regular cleaning, inspection, and repair are essential to ensuring our gear remains safe, reliable, and ready for service. These preventative maintenance efforts help extend the life of our equipment while providing our members with the protection they deserve.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Aberdeen Township Fire District #2 Board of Fire Commissioners for their continued commitment to firefighter safety. Their support and investment in programs such as annual gear cleaning, inspection, and repair demonstrate their dedication to ensuring our members have the safest and most effective equipment available.

A special thank you to the team at RedLine Gear Cleaning, Inspection & Repair for bringing their mobile cleaning and repair units directly to our firehouse and for the professionalism and expertise they provide.

By investing in our gear today, we are investing in the safety, health, and readiness of our firefighters for tomorrow.

Because protecting our community starts with protecting the firefighters who serve it.

๐Ÿšช๐Ÿ”ฅ FUN FACT THURSDAY: Why Bedroom Doors Matter ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿšช

Did you know that something as simple as closing your bedroom door at night could help save your life during a fire?

A closed door can slow the spread of fire, heat, and toxic smoke, helping keep temperatures lower and giving you more time to escape or be rescued.

โœ… Lower temperatures
โœ… Slower fire spread
โœ… Added protection while you sleep

It only takes seconds to close a door, but it could buy you precious minutes in an emergency.

Close Before You Doze. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ’ค
