Severe storms are possible this afternoon and evening. For the latest severe weather warnings sign up for ReadyNotify at www.readynotify.us

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible across interior Northeast Ohio/Northwest Pennsylvania this afternoon. A few storms may be strong, although confidence in the placement/coverage of storms is somewhat low.

A weakening line of strong thunderstorms will move east into the area later tonight. There is uncertainty in how strong storms are as they move east into the area, but the best chance of severe weather will be across Northwest Ohio, where there is a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) of severe weather.

Damaging wind gusts and large hail will be the main hazards with any thunderstorms today.

Structural currents are almost always present along structures like piers and break walls.

These currents are dangerously strong and can carry away even the best swimmers.

Never swim within 100 yards of a pier or break wall. If you do fall in or get pulled into a structural current remain calm. Do not fight the current.

Yell for help and try to get someone to throw you a life ring. Try to catch a ladder if you can.

Never jump into the water after someone who has fallen, or you may be stuck in the current too.

There is a HEAT ADVISORY in effect in Cuyahoga County from noon to 8pm TODAY!

Limit time outdoors this afternoon and evening. If you must go out make sure to drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks in the shade, and wear loose, lightweight clothing to help you stay cool.

Hot and humid conditions for north central and northwest Ohio today warranting a Heat Advisory with temps in the lower 90s and heat index values nearing 100. Further east, still very warm and humid, but below criteria. More storms possible later today and tonight.

The weather is heating up! Make sure you drink plenty of water, where lightweight clothing, and take frequent breaks in the shade when you go out.

Extreme heat paired with high humidity is in the forecast. The “feels like” temperatures around Cuyahoga County will be around 100, which makes it difficult for the body to maintain its normal temperature. For cooling centers and more tips visit cuyahogacounty.gov/extremeheat .

Rip currents are a common hazard on Lake Erie.

If you are heading out to enjoy the lake this summer check the weather forecast before you go. Pay special attention to any beach hazard statements.

If you are caught in rip current it is important to remain calm. Rip currents do not pull you under.

Do not fight or swim against the current. Swim out of the current parallel to the shore. When you are out of the rip current you can begin to swim back towards the shore.

If you cannot get out of the current yell or wave for assistance.

If you head outside in the heat today, remember to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in the shade, and look out for signs and symptoms of heat illness like dizziness, nausea, and headache.

Temperatures on the rise today, except less noticeable adjacent to the lakeshore thanks to an east/northeast wind off Lake Erie. Chances for rain will return late today into tonight, and then increase Tuesday.
