Three of our members have successfully completed the Apparatus Operator – Pumper course at the Alabama Fire College in Tuscaloosa!
This 40‑hour certification course is built around the NFPA 1010 Standard on Professional Qualifications for Firefighters and is designed to advance firefighters into skilled, competent apparatus operators.
During the course, they covered topics such as:
Preventive Maintenance, Tests & Inspections, Driving & Operating the Apparatus, Water Supply, Sprinkler & Standpipe Operations, and Fireground Pump Operations.
Students learned to:
Operate pumps from both pressurized and static water sources; relay pump operations; produce effective handlines, master streams, and foam streams; and support sprinkler and standpipe systems during emergencies.
This course was physically demanding, technically detailed, and nationally accredited, ensuring that operators can perform every task swiftly, safely, and competently.
In short: this certification directly increases the safety, readiness, and effectiveness of our department — and strengthens the protection we provide to our community every single day.
Join us in congratulating these three members for their dedication, hard work, and commitment to serving Cleveland with excellence!
