We are saddened to share the passing of V, our female North American black bear. V was a special part of our Zoo for 20 years, earning her name from the distinctive white marking in the shape of a "V" on her chest. As she aged, our animal care and veterinary teams worked closely to ensure her comfort and wellbeing. This morning, V was humanely euthanized due to her advanced age, declining health and reduced quality of life.
V came to Cleveland Metroparks Zoo in 2006, and while her exact age is unknown, it is predicted she was between 20-25 years old. V lived beyond average life expectancy - a reflection of the dedicated care she received. We’re grateful to the team that built a strong bond with V and proud to have provided skilled husbandry and veterinary care to her over the past two decades.
Guests may notice a temporary transition in her habitat during this time.
We invite you to share your memories of V and join us in honoring her life.
