TARKINGTON — WE REMEMBER.

This Friday morning, Tarkington Fire will step off for our 2nd Annual 9/11 Remembrance Walk — 5 miles in full gear to honor those who never made it home.

As we travel the same route as last year, we’re asking our community to STEP OUTSIDE.

🇺🇸 Wave a flag.
📸 Take a picture.
👨‍👩‍👧 Bring the kids.
❤️ Make a sign.
👋 Or simply give us a wave as we pass.

**UPDATE**

Engine 51, Tanker 51, additional tankers from District 77, Cleveland TX Fire Department , Liberty County Fire Marshal, and Acadian Ambulance service were on scene today to aide in the extinguishment of the structure fire on CR 2211. Even with the heat index today no injuries to any personnel were reported. A special thank you to all the agencies on scene today. As of now all units are clear and back in service.

Be advised your Engine 51 crew is in route to the area of CR 2211 and FM 2518 for a reported structure fire. Please avoid the area and yield to emergency vehicles.

🇺🇸 TARKINGTON PRAIRIE 🇺🇸 WE’RE CALLING ON YOU TO BE PART OF THIS

On the morning of Friday, September 11th, members of your Tarkington Fire will once again shoulder our gear and walk in remembrance of the 343 firefighters, first responders, and thousands of innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001.

This year, though, we want to see you, our community along the way.

When you see us coming down the road, step outside.

🇺🇸 Wave an American flag.
📸 Take pictures or videos and share them with us.
❤️ Make a sign.
👨‍👩‍👧 Bring the kids out to wave.
👋 Or simply stand along the route and let these firefighters know you’re there.

You don’t have to walk five miles in bunker gear to be part of this remembrance. Sometimes simply standing together in remembrance says enough.

We will be stepping off at 6:30 AM on Friday, September 11, 2026, and travel the same route as last year.

If you live along the route—or can safely find a place to stand along it—we would love to see American flags lining the road as we pass.

And when you take those pictures, tag Tarkington Fire. We want to see this walk through the eyes of the community we serve.

They carried the weight. Together, we will carry their memory.

Update(8/6): National Water Model derived flood maps in Alaska have been restored. Remaining flood map in Alaska is pending resolution.Flood Inundation Mapping services are now available for 60% of the U.S. population here. Additional NWPS resources are available here.

The fire service is a family that reaches far beyond department lines, and today that family mourns together.

Tarkington Fire Department extends our deepest condolences to our brothers and sisters of Montgomery County ESD No. 6 – Porter Fire Department on the loss of Captain Jesse Castillo.

Captain Castillo served his community with dedication and courage, and his impact will live on through the firefighters who stood beside him, the people he served, and the lives he touched along the way.

To his family, friends, and the men and women of Porter Fire — you do not stand alone. Your fire service family stands with you.

Rest easy, Captain Castillo.
We’ll take it from here, Brother.
