I did not see this coming.

This month at the Southeast Strong Policy Entrepreneur Program, Stacey Abrams was our guest speaker, and she did not disappoint.

Her conviction that poverty is a solvable problem, rooted in the Matthew 25 call to action, was both challenging and deeply inspiring. It is rare to sit in a space where someone speaks with that level of clarity and purpose about what is actually possible.

Taking a risk on this program may be one of the best decisions I have made.

I was so excited to present this award to Hailey Johnston I could hardly contain my emotion! I am so grateful for our partnership with Free 2 Fly and the United Way of the Ocoee Region!

🌟 Award Spotlight: Hailey Johnston 🌟

Please join us in celebrating Hailey Johnston, recipient of the Lt. Col. Jim Tucker Nonprofit Leader of the Year Award!

Driven by a powerful vision to support, nurture, and empower women, Hailey founded Project Free 2 Fly in 2014 - growing it from a grassroots effort into a thriving organization with a permanent home in downtown Cleveland.

Under her leadership, Project Free2Fly has created a one-of-a-kind transitional program that bridges the gap between crisis recovery and long-term independence. Serving women overcoming homelessness, addiction, crisis pregnancy, and more, the program has transformed lives in truly meaningful ways.

Impact at a Glance ➡️
• 60 women served since inception
• Thousands of hours of counseling and enrichment
• Meaningful employment opportunities for every participant
• 100% of graduates leave with stable housing, employment, and a sustainable plan for the future

Each graduate also gains the lifelong skill of sewing, empowering them with both creativity and independence.

Hailey’s commitment extends beyond her organization. By partnering with over 20 community organizations and serving as Sergeant-at-Arms for the Rotary Club of Cleveland - TN, she works to strengthen and uplift her entire community.

Congratulations, Hailey, on this well-deserved recognition! Your leadership is changing lives and building brighter futures every day.

I recently had the opportunity to spend time at the State Capitol Building and the State Senate Building. We had an interesting conversation, which sparked my thoughts on legislating morality. Here are my reflections on the history and spending time with representatives.
