The First Time for First Person Singular

A few years back, I went off-script with this page. My creative side had been squashed for so long that it started to leak out into the posts. And it just kept going, mainly because I made zero effort to stop it. Instead of just reporting facts, I introduced tough subjects like virtual online baseball, the never-ending distrust of weather forecasts, a barely noticeable obsession with chocolate candies, and the grand adventures of Mortimer and friends. Sometimes I turned the page into a classroom as I dabbled in vocabulary and grammar lessons. And to my great delight, nobody ever questioned why we were teaching the difference between “you’re” and “your.” But as I turn the page to a new opportunity, my much-loved chapter here draws to a close. Almost. Because I’ve been asked to remain on the page as a guest author, and though the contract isn’t yet inked, negotiations look fairly promising.

Friends, we must also ask for your help in finding SOFTBALL coaches. The process is the same, just tell all your friends so they can tell their friends until the openings are filled. The sooner coaches are in place, the sooner everyone benefits as we stop yapping about it.

After 7 weeks, fall sign-ups draw to a close tonight, with 800-plus players along for the ride. Be patient with us next week, please. We must now begin the grim task of directing everyone who just woke up to the waitlist. We fear they could be grumpy.
