Clevelanders shouldn’t pay steep fees to park on roads they pay taxes to maintain. Cleveland City Council has proposed measures to make street parking more affordable in response to concerns from residents, business owners, and employees over the Bibb administration’s expansion of paid street parking and higher rates.

Last week, Councilman Charles Slife welcomed Riverside’s fourth-grade classes to City Hall. Students had the opportunity to learn about local government and participate in a mock council meeting, where they voted on legislation proposing a tax on playground usage for kids. The students also toured the Justice Center and visited a courtroom to learn more about the judicial system.

Cleveland Councilman Charles Slife is leading the charge to ensure the city’s digital growth doesn't outpace its infrastructure. Ordinance 556-2026, introduced by Slife, proposes a temporary moratorium on new data centers to allow for a comprehensive review of their impact on Cleveland's energy grid, water resources, local land use, and adjacent neighborhoods.

Councilman Slife has emphasized that while Cleveland welcomes innovation, the city must "measure twice and cut once." He has voiced concerns about the massive power consumption and minimal job creation associated with modern data center campuses, noting that the city needs to ensure these facilities don't strain the resources meant for residents and local businesses.

Status Update: The ordinance has been moved to the Mayor’s office and is currently awaiting administrative review from the Law Department and other relevant city departments to ensure it is legally sound and aligns with citywide strategy before it returns to City Council for further action and a final vote.

Councilwoman Stephanie D. Howse-Jones hosted a Women’s History Month celebration, joined by fellow Councilwomen Jasmin Santana, Deborah Gray, Nikki Hudson, and council staff. Guests shared personal stories and photos honoring the women who have inspired and shaped their lives. The luncheon, catered by Pearl Flower, a women-owned business, added a special and delicious touch to the celebration.

Cleveland City Council welcomed representatives of the newly christened USS Cleveland at its Monday, May 11, 2026, meeting and presented them with a resolution celebrating the new ship and Cleveland’s long history with U.S. Navy ships that have borne its name.
