It’s been one year since we listed the Variety Theater for sale. Perhaps I should’ve known from the get that I couldn’t pull it off, but I gave it my all. The past few months have been extra hard dealing with weekly breakins at the theater. This is the opposite of what we dreamed for the building, the neighborhood, the city and ourselves. There’s a new (from September)tag in the building from one of the many recent intruders: CINIC. It’s especially ironic considering that it was my intense idealism that led me down this path. But I will not become a cynic!!! I still believe in humanity, in beauty, and our ability to do good. The building is still for sale. It’s still ripe for revitalization. And it’s ok to dream big! And we can never trade our idealism for cynicism, especially now when it seems like the world is falling apart. The and ‘s team are working extra hard to help us keep the block safe while we find a new owner.
