It's time for our second FREE kids EKG screening, Saturday, May 2. Last year many parents brought their kids over to help be sure an underlying problem couldn't be fatal as kids play sports and do kids things. Hope you'll bring your kid over. If you have trouble with the QR code, sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0F4FAFAF2FABFE3-63476984-play
Signing up helps us plan, but we'll do our best to take walk-ins if your schedule on that Saturday changes. If you got one last year, it's a good idea to get another this year to look for trends. See you Saturday, May 2. 9401 E US 377 in Cresson.

Good work being done by Rio Vista, Bono, Godley, Liberty Chapel, ESS and TFS. The fire is contained but not yet controlled off of FM1434 & CR 1117.

Around 8 acres burnt from land clearing. No structures are threatened.

Due to improved fuel conditions, including measurable rains and green-up kicking in, Judge Boedeker has rescinded the burn ban.

We keep a close eye on fuel moistures, but the warm days and several rain events have started to ramp green-up into high gear. Green-up will significantly improve the fire danger until we start to cure out.

πŸ„ Large Animal Rescue – Successful Outcome πŸ„

Last night we responded to a challenging large animal rescue involving a cow that became trapped in a cattle guard. By 9:00 PM, after a lot of teamwork and problem-solving, we were able to safely free her.

Three of her legs were stuck in the cattle guard, requiring a coordinated effort and specialized equipment. Ropes and ratchet straps were used to secure her horns while crews utilized a SawZall and cutting torch to cut through the heavy wall pipe of the cattle guard. Hydraulic extrication cutters and spreaders were then used to move the pipe and free her legs.

A sling made from tow straps was carefully constructed to lift the cow out of the cattle guard and get her back on solid ground.

Huge thanks to Rio Vista FD, ESD Station 77, and Veterinary Dr. Shane for their assistance and expertise. This was a true team effort, and we’re grateful for everyone who came together to ensure a successful rescue.

Great work by all involved! πŸ‘πŸš’πŸ‚

A few of our firefighters attended live fire burn training this evening at the fire training facility. This training brought together over 30 firefighters from Bono, Godley, Lillian, Keene, and the ESD.
Live burns provide invaluable hands-on experience and help ensure our crews stay sharp, safe, and ready to serve our community.
Thankful for the opportunity to train alongside our neighboring departments.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Cresson Volunteer Fire Department as they mourn the loss of Firefighter David Hendrix. We stand with our fellow firefighters and his loved ones during this difficult time. May his service and sacrifice never be forgotten. Rest easy, brother.

Just after midnight this Thursday morning, January 15, Cresson Firefighter No. 38 David Hendrix left us for the arms of Jesus. David fought cancer for well over a year, of a type presumptively assumed to have been caused by his firefighting work. We've missed him while he valiantly fought for his health, and now we miss him even more. He can never be replaced.

Today, Bono VFD participated in a prescribed burn at the King Ranch off of Highway 67. This planned burn not only supported land management efforts but also provided an excellent training opportunity for our firefighters.
We are grateful for the support and partnership of Cleburne Fire Department, City of Godley Fire Department and Rio Vista Fire Department.

πŸ”₯ Prescribed Burn Notice – Tuesday, January 13 πŸ”₯

On Tuesday, January 13, the King Ranch in Johnson County will be conducting a prescribed burn of approximately 500 acres of grassland. A wildland/grassland fire specialist working with the ranch will be on site managing the burn operations.

The Bono Fire Department, along with several other Johnson County fire departments, will assist and use this operation as a training opportunity to enhance our knowledge of wildland fire behavior and suppression techniques.

Location: West of Cleburne, near the 8200 block of Highway 67 West

The burn will be more than one mile from any public roadway; however, smoke will be visible from Highway 67, FM 4, and FM 2331.

This is a planned and controlled burn, conducted under safe conditions. We appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation.
