Our engine now boasts upgraded battery-powered hydraulic rescue tools, courtesy of Johnson County Emergency Services District No. 1's support. These new tools enable us to efficiently rescue citizens trapped in vehicles constructed with stronger materials that our older equipment couldn't handle, ultimately enhancing our emergency response capabilities. Grandview Fire Department was assisted by our team in a residential fire incident over the weekend. Other departments present were Rio Vista Fire Department, Emergency Support Services, and Johnson County Emergency Services District No. 1.

Our organization has seen significant progress as multiple members have completed the FF 1 and EMS requirements over the last few months, culminating in the awarding of black helmets. This milestone marks the continuation of their training in various fire, EMS, and specialist areas, ultimately benefiting the community they serve. We are very proud of their accomplishments.

Just an FYI for folks in this area, the county is doing a culvert replacement on CR423 today.

Update 5/6 8:30am work is complete and the road is open.

Precinct 4 has notified us they will be closing CR 423 in Grandview between CR CR 421 and CR 308 to replace the under road culvert. They plan to have it back open by 5pm, we will keep you posted.

Over the past month, 3 members participated in a wildland refresher course call RT-130.

The intent of RT-130, Wildland Fire Safety Training Annual Refresher (WFSTAR) is to focus line-going personnel on operations and decision-making issues related to fireline safety in order to recognize and mitigate risk, maintain safe and effective practices, and reduce accidents and near misses. These 3 members also done the shelter deployment and the arduous pack test is an annual, pass/fail fitness assessment for wildland firefighters, requiring a 3-mile walk in under 45 minutes while carrying a 45-pound pack or vest.

We are providing support to the Alvarado Fire Department for a structure fire incident, alongside Keene Fire Rescue, Grandview Volunteer Fire Department, Johnson County Emergency Services District No. 1, Bluewater Oaks VFD, Careflite, and Johnson County Sheriff's Office. Last Monday, we celebrated our firefighters with an appreciation dinner, an event we organize several times a year. Several members were recognized for their accomplishments throughout the previous year.
