Nature's Edge Wildlife and Reptile Rescue

Nature's Edge Wildlife and Reptile Rescue Together, we protect nature's most vulnerable. As an exotic reptile rescue, we also take in unwanted pet reptiles and amphibians.

NEWRR is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to rehabilitating injured wildlife, providing sanctuary to non-releasable animals, and educating the community about conservation and coexistence. Nature's Edge Wildlife and Reptile Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of wildlife and the rescue of exotic reptiles. We are fully licensed and permitted by both state and f

ederal authorities to rehabilitate native reptiles, bats, birds of prey, and select mammals. In cases where we cannot provide direct care, we assist with the transportation of wildlife to other licensed rehabilitators. Each animal receives the necessary veterinary care, behavioral conditioning, and treatment. Once they are healthy and ready, we place them up for adoption. Adopters must demonstrate proper knowledge of species care, including housing and diet, to ensure a successful adoption. Our organization also offers educational programs in the DFW area, focusing on wildlife conservation, species identification, habitats, and adaptations. We aim to reduce human-wildlife conflicts by providing practical information and raising awareness about local wildlife. Nature's Edge is funded entirely by tax-deductible public donations, as we receive no state or federal funding. If you'd like to support our work, you can donate through:

We took in this little baby bobcat over the weekend. She was approximately 10 days old when she arrived and is now about 12 days old.

Unfortunately, her mother was shot, and the babies were not discovered until a couple of days later. Sadly, her two siblings did not survive.

This little girl, however, is doing wonderfully. She is eating well, growing stronger every day, and receiving around-the-clock care. Once she is fully weaned, she will be introduced to the other babies in our care.

As we move through baby season, please remember that many of our native wildlife species are raising young right now. Before resorting to trapping or killing wildlife, consider humane exclusion methods and take a moment to determine whether babies may be present. In many cases, conflicts can be resolved without creating orphaned wildlife.

We're grateful this little one was found in time and look forward to watching her continue to thrive.

Yes, the lid matters! A dark, enclosed space helps reduce stress and keeps the animal calm. It also prevents escape. Even severely injured animals can suddenly find enough energy to run, jump, or fly away.
Less stress = a better chance of survival.

This sounds strange during a Texas summer, but rapid temperature changes can send wildlife into shock. If you found the animal outside in 90ยฐ heat, bringing it into a 70ยฐ air-conditioned home or car can be dangerous. Babies especially struggle to regulate body temperature. Keep them in a warm, quiet place away from pets, children, TVs, and loud noises.

This is the most important step.
Even overnight, the animal will NOT die from missing a meal. But improper feeding kills wildlife every single day.
Why?
โ€ข Baby birds can aspirate easily, meaning fluids enter the lungs and cause pneumonia.
โ€ข Different species require completely different diets.
โ€ข Wrong foods can cause severe digestive issues and dehydration.
โ€ข Injured animals often need medical treatment before feeding.
โ€ข Baby mammals must be warm and properly hydrated FIRST before feeding.

A few things to remember:
โ€ข Ambulances do not stop for fast food on the way to the hospital.
โ€ข Doctors tell humans not to eat or drink before medical procedures for a reason.
โ€ข Most songbirds do NOT drink water in the nest.
โ€ข Scrambled eggs, bread, milk, dog food, and cat food are NOT appropriate for wildlife.
And noโ€ฆ yogurt, Ensure, Pedialyte, Gatorade, milk replacer, or random โ€œhome remediesโ€ are not safe either.

Do not wait days. Bird and baby mammal bones heal incredibly fast. If injuries heal incorrectly, there may be nothing rehabbers can do later. If one rehabber is unavailable, contact another nearby. Most rehabbers will gladly help direct you to someone who can assist.

We want to give a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who has donated, shared our posts, reached out, and especially those who have donated food during this emergency. Your kindness and support mean so much to us and to the animals depending on our care.

We do want to clarify that we have NOT yet been able to replace the large food loss from the freezer failure. Our food supplier requires payment up front before the order can be placed, and because the food ships by truck from Colorado, it can take a couple of weeks to arrive after ordering.

That means we urgently need funds AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so we can place the order immediately and avoid running critically low on food while waiting for shipment.

We are also still trying to raise enough funds to purchase another freezer after losing one unexpectedly.

At this time, we still need approximately $1,500 to cover:
โ€ข Emergency food costs
โ€ข Up-front payment for the food shipment
โ€ข Replacement freezer costs

Every donation, no matter the size, truly helps. Shares are also incredibly important and help us reach more people willing to support the animals in our care.

Thank you all for standing with Natureโ€™s Edge Wildlife & Reptile Rescue during this crisis. We could not do this without you.

We are in a crisis situation right now and desperately need your help.

One of our freezers failed overnight, and we lost HALF A FREEZER FULL of meat used to feed the animals in our care. Thousands of dollars worth of food is now gone, and with the number of animals we care for daily, this is devastating.

Right now, we urgently need:
โ€ข Emergency funds to place an immediate food order
โ€ข Help purchasing a new freezer
โ€ข Donations of meat and animal-safe food items

Every single day, we feed injured and orphaned wildlife, permanent sanctuary animals, reptiles, birds, mammals, and exotics that depend entirely on us to survive. We cannot simply โ€œskipโ€ feedings while we try to recover from this loss.

This couldnโ€™t have happened at a worse time, and we are asking โ€” truly begging โ€” for community support right now. Even small donations add up and could mean the difference between having food for these animals or not.

If you have ever supported us, shared our posts, visited an event, or cared about the work we do, please consider helping today.

These animals are depending on usโ€ฆ and right now, we are depending on you.

Natureโ€™s Edge Wildlife and Reptile Rescue is participating in this yearโ€™s North Texas Gives to Animals, sponsored by .

Last year alone, we took in more than 2,500 animals in need โ€” including native wildlife like owls, foxes, bobcats, turtles, ducks, and reptiles, as well as surrendered exotic animals such as reptiles, birds, amphibians, and other specialized species needing safe placement and care.

Your support helps provide:๐Ÿฆ‰ Medical care๐ŸฆŽ Specialized diets๐ŸฆŠ Medications & fluids๐Ÿข Safe enclosures๐Ÿฆ… Wildlife rehabilitation & education

This year, weโ€™re raising funds to continue improving critical rehabilitation and intake spaces and to help us care for the growing number of animals arriving every day.

โœจ BONUS: On May 14, the first $100 donated per donor, per organization, will be matched online while matching funds last โ€” helping your donation go twice as far for wildlife!

Please take a moment to vote for Aria!

Sheโ€™s an incredible young person with a true passion for wildlife and conservation, especially snakes. Over the past few years, sheโ€™s volunteered at education events, helping teach others just how important snakes are to our ecosystems. Her enthusiasm and knowledge have made a real impact on the people she meets.

Aria and her family have also been amazing supporters of Natureโ€™s Edge. She even played a hands-on role in designing and setting up one of our skunk enclosures, which says a lot about her dedication and work ethic at such a young age.

This opportunity through the Jeff Corwin Junior Ranger program would mean so much to her. Voting is free and only takes a moment, and your support could help make a big difference in her journey.

Thank you for supporting a young conservationist with a bright future!
