𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐈𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐄: September 2, 2026

𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞, 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 – The Cleburne Police Department is providing an update on the condition of the officer injured during an officer-involved shooting on August 24.
The officer was released from the hospital the following day and is continuing his recovery at home.

“We’re grateful that our officer was able to return home and continue his recovery,” said Cleburne Police Chief Rob Severance. “We appreciate the many people who have reached out with their thoughts, prayers, and support for him and his family. We’re also grateful for the other officers from Cleburne and surrounding agencies who responded to the scene and helped ensure everyone’s safety during a difficult and dangerous situation.”

The department understands that members of the community and the media have questions and want to know more about the officer’s condition and the circumstances surrounding the incident. At the same time, we must respect the privacy of the officer and his family during his recovery and ensure the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

As per department protocol, the Texas Rangers are conducting the investigation surrounding this incident. All inquiries regarding the investigation should be directed to the Texas Department of Public Safety – Ranger Division.

The Cleburne Police Department appreciates the community’s continued support and understanding as the officer and his family focus on his recovery.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 24, 2026
Cleburne, Texas (August 24, 2026) – A Cleburne police officer was injured Monday evening in an officer-involved shooting following a pursuit that began in Cleburne and ended in Burleson.

At approximately 6:50 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, Cleburne Police Officers responded to a report of an individual brandishing a firearm. The individual was in a vehicle, and a pursuit ensued after officers arrived. The pursuit continued through Alvarado and north on Interstate 35W before ending near Sam’s Club in Burleson (600 N. Burleson Blvd.).

Shots were fired during the incident. The individual was struck and pronounced deceased at the scene.

One Cleburne Police Officer was struck in the leg by gunfire during the incident and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The officer is reported to be in stable condition.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. The information provided is preliminary, and additional details will be confirmed as the investigation progresses.

As per Department protocol, the Texas Rangers were notified and responded to the scene. The Texas Rangers will be conducting the investigation surrounding this incident. All inquiries should be directed to DPS – Ranger Division.

Our own Officer Mackey was recognized over the weekend at the Cleburne Railroaders ⚾ as a Hometown Hero 🚓 during Cleburne Independent School District Night!

Officer Mackey is 55 years old, his favorite color is black⚫, and his favorite treats are Dr Pepper🥤 and dark chocolate 🍫. His teacher was Officer Fox, he loves Smith Intermediate, and he dreams of being the best SRO he can be!
