28 years ago today a regional partnership on water was formed and ended the 'water wars.' Now, more than 2.6 million residents and businesses across Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties and the cities of New Port Richey, St. Petersburg and Tampa can count on us to ensure we have clean, safe and reliable water now and in the future. Upgrades approved to boost drought‑proof water supply.

The Reverse Osmosis Trains Project will modernize key systems at Tampa Bay Water’s desalination plant, improving efficiency and system redundancy. Once complete, the plant will return to its original 28 mgd capacity—ensuring a drought-proof supply during dry conditions. Construction is expected to be completed in 2027.
