City of Clearwater offices and libraries will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day. There will be no changes to the solid waste or recycling collection schedule. Some recreation centers and pools will be open.

Clearwater Sister Cities is looking for families to help host a group of high school students visiting from our sister city of Nagano, Japan, from Oct. 21 to 30, 2026. We are especially looking for families with students who attend Countryside High School, as the visiting students will spend three days attending classes at the school and one day shadowing their host brother or sister to experience a typical American school day.

In addition to their school experience, the students will also participate in:
• Clearwater Day, featuring tours of City Hall, Clearwater Beach and other local attractions
• College Day at St. Petersburg College
• Cultural activities with their host families throughout their stay

Clearwater and Nagano, Japan, have been sister cities for more than 65 years, with student exchanges taking place since 1990. The city also hosts a middle-school group every March. Mosquito Control is expanding its response to reduce mosquito populations and urging residents countywide to take precautions. Mosquitoes can spread illness and may bite indoors or outdoors at any time. Use an age-appropriate insect repellent as directed, keep doors and windows closed or properly screened and repair holes in screens. At least once a week, empty or cover items that can collect standing water, such as buckets, birdbaths, pet dishes, gutters and tires. Even a small amount of water left standing for more than a week can become a breeding site.

The city of Clearwater and Achieva Credit Union are proud to announce the return of the 2026 Achieva Clearwater Turkey Trot, taking place Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 26, at Clearwater High School.

We are making changes to keep the races a fun and exciting time for everyone. This year, we’re using a more user-friendly registration platform, RunSignUp.com. We’re offering many different packet pickup locations across various Achieva branches in Pinellas County (including weekends!), and we’re providing every participant with a fun, collectible Turkey medal.

The layout of the Pre-Trot Celebration at the BayCare Ballpark will be revamped to provide adequate space and shorter lines for those who wish to pick up their packets while enjoying a family-friendly, community event.

The city of Clearwater is looking to fill vacant positions on several advisory boards. To qualify for a position on a city board, applicants must have relevant expertise to help accomplish a board’s objective and are able to attend scheduled meetings.

• Community Development Board: Looking for individuals with planning, engineering, or landscape architecture experience. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m.
• Brownfields Advisory Board: Looking for business owners or representatives of a business operating in the Brownfields area. The board meets as needed.
• Civil Service Board: Looking for city residents, not employed by the city, or in any manner connected to city administration. The board meets as needed.
