Update 2:30 PM: Threat Determined Not Credible

The school threat investigation has concluded, and the threat has been deemed not credible.

Throughout the day, law enforcement agencies from across Lake County worked in close coordination with local school districts and the County of Lake Board of Education to conduct a comprehensive assessment of school campuses countywide.

Personnel from the Lake County Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol, Lake County Probation, Clearlake Police Department, Lakeport Police Department, CAL FIRE Law Enforcement, and California State Parole responded to schools throughout the county to assist with campus safety and security operations.

Additionally, the Napa County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad and Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad responded with explosive detection K9s and conducted thorough sweeps of each high school campus in Lake County.

Following these coordinated efforts, all campuses were cleared, and the threat was determined to be not credible.

While today's events caused understandable concern for students, families, school staff, and the broader community, the response demonstrated the strength of the partnerships that exist between our law enforcement agencies, school districts, and educational leaders. The safety of our students and school staff remains our highest priority, and every reported threat will continue to be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.

During the Sheriff’s Office's ongoing investigation, we determined this incident is not isolated to Lake County. Within the last month, several law enforcement partners across the State of California have responded to similar events and circumstances. We take all threats to our community and schools seriously and respond appropriately, even when other incidents in the state were determined to be not credible.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office would like to thank our law enforcement partners, the County of Lake Board of Education, local school districts, school staff, and our community members for their patience, cooperation, and support throughout today's incident.

The investigation into the source of the threats remains ongoing.

Update 10:40 AM School Threat Investigations

Since this morning's initial response at Lower Lake High School, similar threats have been reported involving additional high school campuses within Lake County. Law enforcement agencies and school officials are actively coordinating their response and investigating the incidents.

Each reported threat is being taken seriously and evaluated individually. Deputies, investigators, and specialized resources have responded to affected campuses and are actively working throughout the county to ensure the safety of our school communities.

Out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of student and staff safety, some school districts have elected to close schools while law enforcement conducts a thorough assessment of each reported threat. School districts are independently evaluating conditions within their respective districts and making decisions regarding school operations.

Parents and guardians should monitor communications from their respective school districts for information regarding school closures, modified schedules, student release procedures, or other school-specific instructions.

At this time, there is no additional information available regarding the source or credibility of the threats. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

We understand this situation is concerning for students, families, staff, and the broader community. We appreciate the community's patience and cooperation as law enforcement and education partners work together to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

Additional updates regarding the law enforcement response will be provided as information becomes available.

Bomb Threat Investigation at Lower Lake High School

This morning, May 29, 2026, at approximately 6:30 AM, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported bomb threat at Lower Lake High School. Deputies are currently on scene, and the Major Crimes Unit is en route to assist with the investigation.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Napa County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad is also responding, along with a trained detection K9, to conduct a thorough sweep of the campus and surrounding areas.

The Konocti Unified School District has canceled school for the following campuses while the threat is under active investigation: Lower Lake High School, Lower Lake Elementary School, Carle High School, and Highlands Academy. Student and staff safety remains the top priority.

Community members are asked to avoid the area around Lower Lake High School to allow emergency personnel to safely conduct their investigation.

At this time, no additional information is available for release. We ask that community members do not call Dispatch for updates, as this can interfere with emergency operations.

Parents and guardians of students within the district have been notified directly by the school. For the most current updates on school operations, please follow official communications from the Konocti Unified School District.

We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.
