In May the CFD responded to a combined 61 Fire and EMS calls. 52 of these incidents were in Clearfield Borough the remaining were mutual aid. May’s incidents are broken down below…

Quint 1 and Squad 1 just returned from an appliance fire in Hyde Fire Department’s district. Crews arrived to find an oven fire already extinguished and the structure just needing ventilation.

The CFD is pleased to announce that all 7 members who took their skills test for their Firefighter 1 certification this weekend have passed! Now we just wait for the results of their written tests. We are extremely proud of the members for all the time, effort, and studying they have put in to preparing for this exam. Congratulations to Casey Cartwright, Phoebe Kearney, Aiden Woodring, Sam Muir, Andrew Harvey, Dylan Harmic, and PJ Harmic. We are so proud of you all! We would also like you thank Assistant Chief Pat Collins for all the hard work and effort he’s put in to make sure all candidates were ready for test day.

This Sunday, May 31, PennDOT will start a nighttime paving project on Interstate 80 between mile markers 97 and 120 in Clearfield County.

This segment of the project involves I-80 in both directions between mile markers 96 and 106, with shifts running from 6 p.m. each day to 4 a.m. the following morning. Work will pause for the weekend beginning at 4 a.m. on Fridays and resume at 6 p.m. the following Sunday.

Crews will also continue work between mile markers 96 and 112 on the eastbound and westbound sides throughout the 2026 construction season. Lane closures will shift frequently between the left and right lanes.

Tonight members of Hyde Fire Department, Grampian Penn Bloom Vol. Fire Company, Winburne Fire Company Number One, and the CFD met one final time to practice for their Firefighter 1 test this weekend. After months of hard work and studying Assistant 1 (P.Collins) made dinner for the candidates before their final training session as they take their written test tomorrow night and their skills test Sunday. We’d like to wish all candidates the best of luck!

Shortly before 2:30pm the CFD was alerted to assist Hyde Fire Department with an overturned kayak with possible occupants trapped underneath. Rescue 1 responded to the riverbank near “deadman’s curve” to see if they can locate any trapped individuals. Boat 1 responded to the Lower Witmer Park boat launch to deploy into the river. Boats 1 and 8 arrived at the overturned kayak and determined there were no occupants inside. Boat 1 and Drone 5 continued to search river to try and locate any occupants, after a lengthy search it was determined there was to be no occupants in the river.
